Dr. Jack Parker 11.30.2023
As we approach the halfway point of the school year, I want to take this opportunity to share the gratitude I have for our amazing staff. We are thankful for the support they provide to our students each and every day.
With my recent round of school and classroom visits completed, I can attest to the dedication and hard work of our teachers and staff. With fewer college-bound students entering the field of education, it is becoming increasingly harder to fill our open positions. While economic times find new job placement challenges, Mt. Vernon has maintained a comparatively high retention rate of our teachers.
We are working hard to increase salaries and benefits and have beat the state increase in funding for salaries for five years running.
We will continue to work hard to provide the best to our students, and that means working to do even better for our staff each and every year. The Mt. Vernon staff are simply extraordinary and we need to do everything possible to retain them for our students and our community.
New MVCSC Board of Trustees Member
The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) Board of Trustees has recently announced Meghan Britt’s appointment to fill the vacant board seat amidst a highly competitive applicant pool. Britt will fill the remainder of Tony May’s term, extending through the 2024 calendar year.
Britt sought a position on the Board of Trustees due to her deep, personal investment in the success of Mt. Vernon. As a parent to one Mt. Vernon High School graduate and three children currently enrolled in Mt. Vernon schools, her commitment to the community is evident.
Expressing her goals, Britt stated, “A personal goal of mine is to embrace our school's rapid growth while preserving our small-town values and maintaining the strong sense of community that we all cherish. It is crucial to navigate these changes and advancements in education while safeguarding the unique qualities that make Mt. Vernon so special. I aim to ensure that our schools continue to be a source of pride, a close community, and a nurturing environment for everyone that calls Mt. Vernon home.”
The MVCSC Board of Trustees would like to welcome Meghan Britt to this leadership role and looks forward to her fresh perspective as a valuable addition to the team. Britt will be sworn in and officially begin her role as a Board of Trustee at the December 18, 2023 meeting.
CONGRATULATIONS to Adams & Patel - MVHS's Lilly Scholarship Finalists
Mt. Vernon High School seniors Mya Adams and Misha Patel were selected as finalists for the Community Foundation of Hancock County’s (CFHC) annual Lilly Endowment scholarship. Each year, two seniors are selected from each of the four Hancock County high schools for this prestigious selection. Out of these eight seniors, two lucky students are chosen to receive the scholarship that pays for all four years of their college tuition in Indiana.
To be qualified for this highly esteemed scholarship, Adams and Patel proved their academic excellence by being in the top 15% of their graduating class while also displaying their extensive involvement in the community. These two students exemplify the positive character traits that the Lilly Scholarship requires.
The two fortunate winners of the Lilly Endowment Scholarship will be chosen after the student interviews in December. The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation wishes the best of luck to both Mya Adams and Misha Patel!

Here are a few wonderful events that are happening in our schools!
Beam Signing & Topping Off The New Fortville Elementary School
All Fortville Elementary School (FES) students and staff signed the last beam that was placed at the new Fortville Elementary building.
