These are not typical scenes of Washington, D.C., but they are completely accurate. The photos are un-retouched.

As I pointed out in February, in the first part of this series, Washington, D.C. is a diverse town consisting of many different neighborhoods and vibes. In the last two decades development of new housing and office space and the renovation of old spaces for both commercial and residential use, has been non-stop.
Washington, D.C. is one of the most expensive cities to live in the country and developers have often catered to wealthy lobbyists, consultants, political operatives, lawyers, and others who seek all the luxuries of New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco right next to the centers of political power.
CityCenterDC, near the National Portrait Gallery, is one such project. Those who can afford to live here are offered every amenity and nearly every high-end consumer experience they might wish for a few steps from their secured front door. Including their own Tesla dealership.

There are those who criticize high end development in Washington, D.C. as being out of touch with middle America and out of character for such a historic city. But seen another way this is America, or part of it. For some, it is the American dream.
