Literacy
During Literacy this term we focused on the skills for horror narratives and non-chronological reports
Mr Hastey has been really impressed with the descriptive language that created intense, suspenseful atmospheres in the horror writing. As well as the detailed, expertise demonstrated in the non-chronological reports.
LIRA
In LIRA this half term, we firstly looked at the book 'Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins - we enjoyed working on it so much, we kept it as our class book and have been following the adventures of Katniss ever since.
In our LIRA lessons we haved looked at a wide variety of non-fiction texts covering things from the information about the Extinction of the Dodo to how Ladybirds are used to help save crops.
In the final weeks of the half-term, we moved on to a book called 'There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. This really allowed us to explore the deeper meaning and hidden layers of a text.
Maths
In maths this half term we recapped many of our arithmetic and operations skills but moved further with applying these in to a wide variety of problem solving situations.
We also looked at statistics and used real life contexts to collect and analyse data. .
We then moved on to concepts regarding BODMAS, missing number problems and sequences ready to start taking on algebra.
We are becoming real experts at the skills regarding shape and missing angles.
Topic - Frozen World
During this half term we have focussed on GEOGRAPHY skills.
We learnt all about the human and physical features of the Arctic and Antarctic Circles. Compared life in Svalbjard and Barnsley. Explored the differences and similarities of the Arctic Oceans and World Oceans. And then we looked in to the human impact on the polar regions.
Celebrations and Awards
During this half term we have had lots more of the children show the school values and earn their celebration certificates!
We also had a huge number of pupils earn some amazing looking attendance prizes for maintaining 100% or keeping above the school target of 97%.
And it is great to see our pupils having the chance to visit the Mapplewell Points shop as a reward for all their hard work.
Here are some of the things we will be learning next half-term...
Thank you to everyone in Class 10 for an absolutely brilliant half-term. You have all been superstars and have all impressed Mr Hastey and Miss Cannon with your resilience, determination and perseverance to do your very best.
See you after the holidays!
