Breaking news: Coup attempted on Newly erected sugar castle From the perspective of Annabelle the Ant

Around 6:30pm last night a coup was attempted on the Sugar Castle of Webster Street.

Sources close to the scene say the castle appeared around 10am that morning but was under barricade until shortly after the cheese and pepperoni discs were released.

On the evening of April 8th, a series of events broke out that hadn't occurred since exactly three years prior, on April 8, 2019. Translucent air bubbles, cone-shaped tents, and most noticeable of all, a sugar structure.

Many elders of the Webster Street colony will tell you stories of this annual occurrence. Thought to be an ancient myth by most, the stories tell of a day once a year in which the human beings of Webster gather around to honor the family's small child. History writes that this event happened every year since 2007, but abruptly stopped in 2020. For the last two years, there haven't been any gatherings or celebrations– until last night at least.

Around 10am yesterday, the group of gatherers for the colony made the journey into the Northside quad. While the group typically finds it to be the most nutrient rich, recently there have been traps set out around the corners that have created obstacles for the colony to send in large troops. With no success the night before, the mid-morning shift seemed grim. That was, of course, until General Anticcus got a whiff of sugar from the Wood Tower.

I knew what we had to do. As soon as I smelled the sugar I knew. Boy did we strike gold. -General Anticcus

General Anticcus quickly gathered the troops and created a plan to infiltrate the Wood Tower.

"We had to be patient, be smart, be together. Move as one once the humans left."

The General said their patience paid off. Once the cheese and pepperoni discs were gone, the humans lifted the barricade to reveal the source of the sugar scent.

"At first, I wasn't sure what I was looking at," Sargeant Addy said. "But then I realized, this– this was what our elders had talked about. This was the sugar structure they told us appeared every year."

As the troop moved towards the sugar castle, the humans quickly got their poison spray. Sources close to the scene reveal that the humans were more prepared than they had ever seen in the past. It was almost like they were expecting this.

Two hours into the mission, the humans began to break down the structure.

This was our chance. It was now or never. The castle was crumbling within seconds, we couldn't let the opportunity escape. -General Anticcus

When the humans left, the colony swarmed in. Though the structure was too heavy for the group, the trail of crumbs that fell from the castle would be enough to sustain the colony for months to come.

The troop made 4 successful trips back to base before being ambushed by the humans. Sources say there are still crumbs in some of the floor cracks, but the troop will wait until nightfall to attempt again.
