Dear Friends of Children’s Beach House,
So much has been happening at Children’s Beach House as we move forward to welcome kids back to camp this summer and expand our Youth Development Program (YDP) to the town of Milton. We are actively recruiting new kids and families from across the state for the YDP program and are reaching out to community and educational leaders in Milton to ask for their guidance and support. I am very excited by the enthusiasm that is building for our work together there.
One of the things that truly makes the programs of the Children’s Beach House different, is the quality of the relationships we build. At this point, our intention is to simply meet as many folks in Milton as possible and, over time, develop relationships that will both guide and provide feedback on the programs we will design for that community.
As I often say, relationships are the key to understanding everything we do at Children’s Beach House. Relationships build understanding and trust. When relationships are built with those who are different, they provide the foundation for understanding, inclusion, and equity. Our relationships are of primary importance, and we are grateful for each person who supports our work with time, talent, and treasure.
Keep watching for the good things that are coming. And thank you for maintaining a relationship with Children’s Beach House!
Very best wishes for a happy, healthy spring.

CBH’s Charity Golf Event is Back in Full Swing!
One of CBH’s most enduring fundraisers, the annual Charity Golf Event, will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022 at The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay. Started by CBH trustee T. Rowland Marshall (who is the father of current CBH trustees, Constance Marshall Miller and Linda Fischer), the annual Charity Golf Event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support CBH programs for children and families across the state of Delaware.
Under the care and leadership of CBH trustees Ellison Carey and Bernadette Polinski since 2009, the event has grown steadily and now hosts up to 128 players from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland at the Peninsula’s private Jack Nicklaus Signature course. Many golfers have played every year since the event began. While the cause and the course give ample reason to make CBH’s annual charity golf fundraiser a fun and memorable event that inspires such dedication, Ellison and Bernie are building a number of other fun and tasty elements into the day that give additional reasons for people to return year after year. These include golfer prizes, golden tickets (two Mulligans, various on-course contests), boxed lunches, bloody Mary and orange crush station, silent auction, and an evening dinner at the Peninsula’s beautiful clubhouse.

Educere Institute to offer workshops to the public
Since the Educere Institute’s founding, its workshops have been primarily offered to the employees and constituents of the businesses and organizations that have engaged us to do this work. We’ve regularly heard participants tell us they wish our programs were more widely available to the public. The Educere Institute is pleased to be doing exactly that with two of our most popular workshops.
How to Have a Difficult Conversation will be offered on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. People are often reluctant to discuss difficult topics for fear of the consequences. This interactive workshop will help participants learn how to find resolutions. It will introduce practical processes to get to core issues within a conflict and will help to develop skills that can be used during difficult conversations. Participants will practice raising and clarifying issues, learn how to gather information within difficult conversations, and enhance their problem-solving skills. The workshop will start at 6:00 pm and end at 8:30 pm.
Another workshop will focus on Nurturing Resiliency in Children and Youth. Resiliency is the ability to cope with adversity, the capacity to face, overcome, and be strengthened by the adversities of life. The most critical environments in which children develop resiliency are in their families and at school. This workshop will explore where resiliency comes from, how to build it, and how to apply strength-based programming in a classroom setting. Participants will also enhance their skills to reach stressed and anxious children and youth. The workshop will be offered April 21, 2022 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Both workshops will be held at CBH’s Lewes facility, 1800 Bay Avenue. The cost for each workshop is $35/person. Both workshops are DIEEC approved.
