Literacy
In literacy this half term we have been writing a persuasive letter to parents to encourage them to see our amazing artwork. As part of this unit of work, we had to make sure that our letters were written in a formal tone, included persuasive vocabulary and included persuasive arguments to make our parents want to come to our event.
For the second part of this half term, we have focussed on writing a biography all about Pablo Picasso. After learning lots of facts about him in LIRA and topic, we had plenty of knowledge to help us with our writing. We learnt that it was really important for our biographies to be written in chronological order using time connectives to sort the events of Picasso’s life. We also learnt how to use the third person in our writing and we also needed to include a range of sentence openers too.
Topic
Our topic ‘Express Yourself’ has been linked to Pablo Picasso as our focus for this half term has been art. During this topic, we learnt all about Picasso and the different styles of work he created throughout his lifetime. We really focussed on learning about cubism as this was the style we wanted to use for our own final pieces. We experimented with different painting techniques to gain an insight into which ones we would like to use as part of our final piece and we also learnt about the colour wheel and how certain colours compliment one another. Once we had gained knowledge of these specific areas, we began to draw our final piece and then painted it too.
