The ITA Most Improved Senior honors a senior who showed the most improvement over the course of his/her collegiate career.
Carlos Martinez's career at McMurry has been one of hard work, patience, and steady improvement. His first three years with the Warhawks, Martinez consistently found himself ranked somewhere in the middle of the West Region singles rankings. In the shortened 2020 season, he began to breakout. Alongside teammate Chase Daniell, Martinez won the ITA Southwest Regional and qualified for the ITA Cup. He was named an ITA Doubles All-American for the first time.
During the 2021 season, he continued to improve. He qualified for the NCAA Singles and Doubles tournament. In the singles tournament, he won his opening round match to reach the Round of 16. As a result, he earned ITA Singles All-American honors. He finished the year ranked No. 13 in singles and No. 15 in doubles nationally.
