This spring, two seniors from the MHS Varsity Leadership class, Bella Sullivan and Chloe Nieto, created and delivered presentations to the 8th-grade classes of both Jefferson Middle School and Northeast Middle School regarding the dangers of vaping. The presentation emphasized the dangers of addiction to vaping and how vaping can impair a teenager's ability to attain their goals. Thank you, Bella and Chloe!

Dr. Yannick Marchalant from Central Michigan University visits MHS Human Body Systems Classes

We’re ending the 2022-2023 school year with a bang! Human Body Systems (HBS) students at MHS welcomed guest speaker, Dr. Yannick Marchalant from Central Michigan University to their classrom to share his expansive neuroscience knowledge. Mrs. McDonald’s classes were fortunate to him share information on how he started his education and the career path that led him to his current role at CMU. Dr. Marchalant helped students figure out what they could do with a degree in Neuroscience, provided information on current research being conducted at CMU, and even engaged students in a fun quiz to test their nervous system knowledge. Students were also excited to view prepared slides of neurons in the hippocampus of rats and mice and microglia cells in aging rats. These samples were created by Dr. Marchalant and his lab at CMU which definately added to the amount of interest these young adults were already showing. Students were very appreciative to have this opportunity to ask questions they have had about the brain and its functioning, college in general, laboratory work, and career tips from an established scientist and researcher. Thank you, Dr. Marchalant!
Plymouth and Adams Elementary 5th Grade Exhibitions celebrate the end of Elementary School and the Transition to Middle School!

For Plymouth and Adams Elementary 5th grade Exhibitions, students focused on world conflicts, designing action plans and offering creative solutions.

The intense 6-week process of preparing for Exhibition involved research, application, action, and reflection.

Each group worked with community members who served as mentors throughout their journey.

Family and community members were able to attend the Exhibition event allowing students the opportunity to share their projects and expertise. They truly showed how "actions make a difference in conflict and resolution." Great job!

The "Science of Reading" at MPS - Early Elementary Literacy Instruction

Once school has ended for the year, Midland Public Schools will once again be offering the Summer eLearning Program. Through this program, online courses are available to high school students who wish to earn initial credit in select courses. If you are interested in Credit Recovery courses this year, please contact your building administration.

While being onsite is not a requirement for daily work or quizzes, tests and exams must be monitored. This can be by appointment onsite or by appointment virtually. Appointments will be scheduled with the teacher on duty between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 pm on Mondays - Thursdays unless other arrangements are made. Students should expect to invest 45-60 hours to complete each course but may work on their course at any place where they have an internet connection.

Courses will begin on June 5, 2023, and must be completed by August 4, 2023. Students may only register for one course at a time. The cost for each course is $150 for Standard Edgenuity courses (EDG - Edgenuity on course list) and $235 for Edgenuity Instructional Services courses (EDGIS - Edgenuity Instructional Services on course list) for Midland Public Schools students and $175 or $250 for students outside of the MPS district.
