Softball Scores 52 Runs, 5-0 on the Week
Hosting the Beavers of UMaine Farmington Tuesday, the Mules were clicking on all cylinders. Colby held UMF scoreless across the double header, winning by scores of 6-0 and 11-0. Sam Ahlholm and Abby Orso were stellar on the mound, combining for 12 shutout innings, striking out 19 collectively while only walking one. Catcher Chloe Wilcox went 6-6 at the plate with two doubles and two home runs.
Heading into their first NESCAC contests of the season, the Mules hosted Bates for a double header Saturday, and shot down I-95 Sunday for a single game in Lewiston. Colby erupted for 32 hits and 35 runs in the three-game set, sweeping the Bobcats and beginning their NESCAC season atop the conference standings. The Mules collected 30 RBI, eight of which came on grand slams by Wilcox in game 2 and Amanda Cabral in game 3.
The Mules are now 14-8 and prepare to host #11 Tufts for a three-game set this coming weekend.
#4 Women's Lacrosse Holds Amherst to 4, Williams to 7 - Sweeps NESCAC Weekend
Hosting #19 Amherst College on Saturday, the Mules capped a 16-4 victory by celebrating 11 seniors for Senior Day. The Colby defense was almost flawless, holding the Mammoths to only four goals on 14 shots. The Mules outgained Amherst 14-4 in ground balls and awarded the visitors only three free-position shots.
Elizabeth Hennessey tallied a career-high six goals, with five coming in the first half as Colby built a 10-1 lead to begin the contest.
On Sunday the Mules hosted Williams College in a makeup event from a few weeks ago. Keeping their momentum going, Colby built a 9-5 lead at the break and kept the pressure on for the second half, defeating the Ephs by a score of 15-7.
Gianna Bruno leads the NESCAC in points per game (4.64) and Assists (34), and Annie Eddy ranks fourth in the conference in goals (35).
With two more wins against NESCAC opponents this weekend, the Mules jump a spot to #4 in the IWLCA National Rankings. Eight of the top-20 teams are made up of schools from the NESCAC.
Colby now sports a 10-1 record, and joins Middlebury as the only undefeated teams within conference play. The two square off this coming Saturday in Vermont.
Ranked Tennis Squads Nearly Perfect on Senior Weekend
Entering the weekend's matchups ranked 24th and 26th respectively, the Men's and Women's Tennis teams hosted Conn. College on Saturday and Trinity on Sunday.
The Mules put on a show for Saturday's Senior Day, defeating the Camels 9-0 for both the men and women. Not stopping there, Colby downed the Bantams Sunday, again with the men and women having identical scores, 8-1.
Against Trinity, Sam Riordan (2-seed) and Caroline Kittle (5-seed) took their pivotal matches deep, defeating their opponents 7-5, 7-6 and 7-5, 6-1 respectively. The top duo of Lindsey Hernandez and Carly Levitz won their doubles match 8-7 (7-5).
On the men's side, Jan Wenger earned two victories out of the top spot for singles. Senior Max Schuermann won each of his singles and doubles matches on the weekend, outscoring his opponents by a collective score of 40-9.
The Men's team is ranked #24 across Division III with a 7-3 record. The Women are ranked #26 at 8-3.
Crew Splits With Coast Guard in Lowell
Colby Crew took to Lowell, Mass. for head-to-head matchups with Coast Guard. The Men's V8 boat took the matchup over the Bears by five seconds, while the Women's V8 fell just short.
The Women's second V8 boat took home their matchup by the narrowest of margins, edging Coast Guard by two seconds. Colby's Men's V4 boat entered into a seven-team race, qualifying for the Grand Final and placing fourth.
The Crew teams head to Worcester next weekend for a seven-team event before returning to Maine for the annual President's Cup between Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin.
Men's Lacrosse Shuts Out Thomas 24-0
Colby finished it's non-conference schedule with a 24-0 victory over Thomas College on Wednesday night. Finishing the season 3-0 away from the NESCAC, the Mules outscored their three opponents (Maine Maritime, Saint Joseph's, Thomas) 60-11. Evan DeVita and Henry Popko scored three goals and tallied one assist apiece.
Facing off against Amherst on Saturday, Colby built a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, and held a 5-3 advantage at the half. The Mammoths made their adjustments and outscored the Mules 4-1 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth to take a 12-7 victory.
Colby is 4-5 on the season, ranked 9th in the NESCAC.
Baseball Jumps on Thomas, Falls on the Road to Middlebury
The Mules hosted cross-town Thomas College Monday night for the first leg of the Elm City series. Colby jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and extended it to 11-1 after the third, cruising to a 22-7 victory. 12 different Mules recorded a hit and 12 different Mules scored a run, and the nine innings of work on the mound was spread out amongst six different pitchers.
With the weekend in flux due to weather conditions, the Mules traveled to Middlebury for a non-conference double header against the Panthers. While Middlebury is a member of the NESCAC, the conference has split the NESCAC into an East region and a West region for Baseball and Softball to make travel and competition more consistent.
With rain and a soggy field pushing the contests to Sunday, The Panthers were able to break the first game open in the bottom of the sixth with eight runs, distancing themselves for a 16-5 victory. In game 2 Middlebury put up crooked numbers in the second (7) and third (6) innings, breaking away for a 15-5 win.
Brady O'Brien leads the NESCAC with 25 RBI, ranks 8th in Runs Scored with 21, and is 10th in Batting Average (.415).
Colby is 12-5 and set to face UMF and USM in midweek games before facing off against the Bobcats of Bates College this coming weekend.
Track & Field Competes at the Polar Bear Invite
The Colby Men's and Women's Track & Field teams traveled to Brunswick for a day of individual competition, facing off against athlete from Bowdoin, UMF, Husson, UMFK, and UMaine Augusta. Team scores were not tallied, but individuals raced towards qualifying marks for D3 New England's to be held early next month.
The men's team placed 10 Mules on the podium with five event winners, and swept the podium in the Steeplechase.

Colby travels to Connecticut this coming weekend to compete at the Siflin Invitational (Conn. College) Friday, and the UConn Northeast Challenge (UConn) on Saturday.
