3 WAYS TO MEET PEOPLE AT CHURCH
One of the criticisms we hear about a "big church" is it’s too hard to get to know people. How can the pastor know if you’ve got something going on in your life if there are thousands of people there?
But here’s the thing...a church of ANY size seems too big if you don’t know anyone. Here are three ways you can get to know people at Christ's Church of Yukon.
#1 - Linger in the lobby.
When the service is over, don’t rush to the parking lot. Take your time. Grab a cup of coffee in the lobby and introduce yourself to someone. If you have children in Bible Barn or Powerzone, talk to the other parents and the volunteers. They would love to get to know you!
#2 - Join a small group.
One of the best ways to “do life” with people is to join a small group. At CCY, we call them small groups, because we want to get to know each other on a personal level in a more intimate setting. Whether it’s 50, 500, or 5,000 people in a church service, it’s tough to talk about life on Sunday morning. So these small groups meet in homes throughout the week. You can give one a try, and if it’s not right, you can try another one. For a full list of small groups click the button below.
#3 - Join a volunteer team.
This is one of the best ways to get to know people. No matter your stage in life, there’s a certain camaraderie from working together. For example, the 25 or so adults who work the Christ's Closet event every month have become like family. The same goes for our praise team – they love "jamming" together. Serving at Christ's Church of Yukon isn’t complicated. Just click the button below to learn about each of the teams and get signed up.
Those are just three ways you can meet people and make the church feel a whole lot smaller!
There is nothing better or more comforting than the love our Father has for us.
Last month in Sunday school we talked a lot about how we are all made in God’s image and how much he loves us and cares for us.
Zephaniah 3:17 describes that love so well. It says,
“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
This verse can bring us so much comfort not only during good times but also during difficult times. One of my favorite things to do with my kids is singing with them. Landon has loved music ever since he was born and when he is having a rough day there is one thing that is sure to bring him comfort and that is music. Just like we sing to our children to comfort them or bring them joy, God sings over us. He wouldn’t sing over us if He didn’t take great delight in us.
This month don’t forget to thank God for that love and delight He has for you, and if you are going through a difficult time remember to pause and allow God in to comfort and quiet you with his love.
Here is an activity you can do at home to help your kids understand just how much God loves them. Sit down as a family and go around the table telling each other what characteristics they have that brings God great delight. We did this activity in Sunday school and the kids loved it. It was fun to talk about the silly things they do that bring God and others joy but also good to talk about the serious things that bring delight to God.
Ms. Tori
In life there are ultimately two choices… to follow the words of Jesus and to strive to live out His words for us -- or listen to any other voice.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:24,
“everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice, is like a wise man who built his house on a rock”.
So ask yourself, How solid do you want the foundation of your life to be? As for me – I don’t want to build my life (or want you to build yours) on a shaky foundation.
For the next several weeks we will listen and focus on the words of Jesus himself from the greatest sermon ever preached, The Sermon on the Mount. In this message, the series will be walking through the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. His words in the first few verses of that chapter are an invitation that He gave and gives into the Kingdom of God.
Hope to see you and your family in person or online!
