IGS Career Mentorship Program AMP UP YOUR SKILLS AND EXPAND YOUR NETWORK

The IGS Career Mentorship Program (CMP) aims to support IGS students who are approaching graduation to make a successful and informed transition from IGS into the Canadian workforce, preferably in their field of interest.

Why Participate?

Mentees will:

  • Explore how their personal, professional, and academic backgrounds relate to the industry/occupation of their interest;
  • Receive guidance, advice and insight from a professional in the industry/occupation of their interest
  • Get support in achieving their personal & professional development goals
  • Develop networking skills and expand their professional networks.

Mentors will:

  • Share their expertise and advice to support the transition of an international graduate student into the Canadian workforce
  • Enhance their professional career portfolio and develop leadership skills
  • Give back to the community, pay it forward and make an impact in someone’s career
  • Connect with internationally trained professionals and expand their own network

STUDENT (MENTEE) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Be a second semester student in any postgraduate certificate at IGS at the time of registration. Registrations start one month prior to the start of the program.
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be available and committed to connecting with your Mentor as per program requirements

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Take a mandatory Mentee Orientation Session which is prerecorded
  • Pass a short assessment of the mandatory mentee orientation session
  • Complete a Mentee Application Form
  • Track your progress
  • Commitment for 1 semester with at least 6 interactions (max. 1 hour each) per semester. Lack of communication will result in removal from the program.
  • Online communication through email, virtual meetings or in-person (on-campus or off-campus) is preferred.
  • Complete Final Engagement Report and attend the program end session

MENTOR ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Be an international alumni of a program offered at IGS with an established career in Canada OR an industry professional with newcomer/international education experience
  • Be working in your field in Canada, preferably in the GTA
  • Be open to mentoring from 1 - 5 Mentees at a time
  • Be available and committed to connect with your Mentee(s) as per program requirements

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment for 1 semester with a minimum of 6 mentoring sessions (max. 1 hour each) per semester, one-on-one or group
  • Complete Final Engagement Survey
