Coutts Centre for Western Heritage Artist in Residence - June 26 - 29th, 2022

Sometimes things just line up right!

That's what happened when I took some friends with me out to the Coutts Centre for a picnic lunch and walk around the gardens. By the end of day I had been invited back to stay at the centre as part of their Artist in Residence program.

I had long wished to visit the gardens in the early morning and late evening to photograph in the soft light that is available in the hour or so before sunset and again after sunrise. So when the offer was made I jumped at it. The dates were set, my bags were packed and I was off for 3 days of... having never been an artist in residence before, I wasn't really sure what my three days would look like.

They were wonderful

First up - a walkabout

Through the Rose Garden - though as you can tell, other plants call it home as well.

and the Poppy Garden.

Just a few...

early birds...

showing off!

Once around the property.

The Elm Allee has grown up so much since I first started coming here and the addition of the stone walk is an extra special touch. When it's in bloom - it is even more lovely.

Passing by the South Barn and the Tapp House before cutting across the board walk to the Chicken House.

A new bit of pathway being laid down. What a big job cutting all these field stones.

I had better get to the spot I had decided to watch the sunset from. So I cut through the boardwalk.

It was not a spectacular sunset, but it was beautiful and gentle and oh so lovely.

And it was quiet

No vehicles or voices, just the birds and me. Then there was this wagon in the grass and it spoke of children growing up here, playing and learning to love this land.

With the light fading I headed back to the homestead with thoughts in my head what I would shot in the morning. That is going to be another blog though.

Until then - stay well.
