Course objectives
  • The lectures start with clarifying the normal anatomy of different joints and the normal MRI appearance
  • It then explains how to depict the typical and more advanced pathology changes and pitfalls of injuries of the joints
  • Many anatomic - MRI correlations
  • Updated with recent clinically useful information
  • Compared to our 1st edition there are new focus topics and the illustrative imaging material has been expanded
  • Course evaluations from our previous edition rated the difficulty degree as moderately advanced to advanced

INSTRUCTORS

Michel De Maeseneer is a Radiology Professor at the University Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel, VUB) with chair: Johan de Mey. He trained and worked with Prof. Donald Resnick (UCSD, CA) , Jon Jacobson, (University of Michigan, MI), Thomas Pope Jr, and Leon Lenchik (Wake Forest, NC) in the USA for 8 years, and with Maryam Shahabpour.

Veerle De Grove trained with the UZ Brussel MSK Radiology group and is staff member and part of the MSK division at Brugmann, Brussels with chair: Mieke Cannie.

Yannick De Brucker is a staff member of the UZ Brussel and CEO of Radiologie Buggenhout. He is an alumni fellow of the University of Florida.

  • 8.30: Focus: Basics of MRI and relevant artifacts in MSK
  • 8.40: MRI of the shoulder: Bone anatomy, tendons, footprints, muscles
  • 9.25: MRI arthrography of the shoulder: instability, ligaments and labrum, cable, pulley, variants
  • 10.10: MRI shoulder region: capsulitis, impingement, nerves, other
  • 10.30: Break
  • 11.00: MRI of the elbow, tendons, ligaments, nerves, other
  • 11.40: MRI of the fingers
  • 12.20: Lunch
  • 13.20: Wrist MRI: Bone, necrosis, fractures, malformations, other
  • 14.00: Wrist MRI: TFCC and ligament fundamentals (intrinsic, extrinsic), instability
  • 14.45: Midhand, and thumb
  • 15.00: Break
  • 15.30: Focus session: Peculiar (peri) articular incidental findings
  • 15.50: Focus Session: Cartilage and subchondral bone
  • 16.20: Hip joint, necrosis, degenerative, transient edema, epyphyseal fracture, other
  • 16.45: Hip: Femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI)

Day 2

  • 9.00: Pelvis MRI: muscles, tendons including abductors
  • 9.40: MRI of SI joint: Sacroiliitis and differential
  • 10.00: Focus session: a new look at the groin: adductors and inguinal canal
  • 10.20: Break
  • 10.50: MRI of the knee: menisci, emphasis on missed tears, unstable tears, displaced fragments, pittfalls
  • 11.20: Focus session: MR knee: articular and periarticular cystic lesions
  • 11.40: Focus session: Extensor mechanism, patellotrochlear dysplasia and patellar dislocation
  • 12.10: Lunch
  • 13.00: MR Knee: Ligaments
  • 13.45: MRI of the knee: postoperative
  • 14.10: MRI of the ankle and foot: ligaments, plantar fascia. Bonus: impingement fundamentals
  • 15.00: Break
  • 15.30: MRI of the ankle and foot: tendons. Bonus: Achilles tendon
  • 16.00: MRI of the forefoot
  • 16.20: MRI of ankle and foot nerves
  • 16.40: The hallux: A special toe
  • 17.00: Let's do the ankle twist
  • 17.30: Focus session (ethics). Visual graphics in quality improvement in radiology practice.
  • 18:00: Questions and certification
  • 18:00-18.30: Bonus (ethics) session. Ethical work considerations for radiologists.

COURSE 2022

Course Location: Faculteit Geneeskunde, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 1090 Brussel, Belgie

Course fee: 800 euro. Registration is limited to a smaller group.

Reduced fee for radiology assistants: 500 euro ( with a certification letter from your department head).

Covid measures will be according to government and university policy at that time.
