September Update
In early September, we welcomed our new group of interns for the 2022-2023 Caminos class. Over the month, the Caminantes brainstormed ideas for projects around Austin, worked with established artists, and began developing their Zines.

On September 17th, the ESB-MACC hosted its 15th annual Viva Mexico festival in which over 3,000 people attended. During the event, the Caminantes worked alongside production and operations staff, interviewed performing artists, and captured promotional material for our instagram (@atxcaminos).

We had the chance to work with J Muzacs, a local Austin muralist, mosaicist, and public artist who was a past art instructor for the program. J and the Caminantes began workshopping for the installation of the mosaic mural, “Mujeres”, that was created by the first two classes of Caminantes. This mural will showcase historical and influential women from Latino/Hispanic/Chicano/Tejano backgrounds.

We are excited to announce that “Mujeres” will be installed in November 2022 at the ESB-MACC.

The Caminantes had the chance to attend a mosaic workshop located at "Something Cool Studios" in East Austin. During the workshop led by J and his colleagues, the Caminantes created their own mosaics to prepare for the “Mujeres” mosaic installation taking place in November. (Be on the look-out for a review on their experience on the blog!)

Additionally, the Caminantes have been developing their first art project of the year, Zines. With the help of Caminos art instructor, Miguel Santana, the Caminantes are working towards showcasing their Zines at the Dia de Los Muertos event on November 5th.

July Update
Happy Weekend y’all! Caminos has been pretty quiet lately due to preparation for the next class but there’s always something going on in the MACC. If you find yourself looking for something to do the next couple weeks, visit our Sam Z. Coronado Gallery and see artist Blas E. Lopez’s exhibit entitled “Sendas de mi Vida”!
