Hot Glass @ Spruce It Up Garden Centre

I noticed a post on social media promoting the blown glass works by Okotoks Hot Glass for sale at Spruce It Up Garden Centre so as soon as I was able to arrange a visit - I did. While my husband shopped I shot.

Hope you enjoy the results.

Dealing with light.

Glass can be challenging to photograph at the best of times. Reflections, specular highlights and focussing are all challenges to overcome. On a bright sunny day, these issues can be magnified. But all is not bad!

From the right angle, the intense sunlight made the pieces appear to glow. As if lit from within.
Another way to deal with the sun is to find a curlicue in a shady spot and zoom in close.

Dealing with clutter

It can be challenging to shoot something that isn't set up with photographers in mind - busy backgrounds, intrusive signage, oh the things we have to deal with.

But if you can get low and shoot up you may avoid a cluttered background.
Or get close and embrace clutter.
Or get even closer and blur the clutter.
Or closer still and eliminate the clutter.

Finding the Shot

Deciding on the whole picture or part of the picture can be a dilemma.

Sometimes the shot is in the detail.

And sometimes the shot is in the whole picture.

Whatever way you choose to look at it - it's all good, beauty is, after all, in the eye of beholder.
