Gobeklitepe 9500BCE Archeological Site

The analysis of the stones used in the construction of Göbeklitepe showed that it was a fairly hard stone that could not be found everywhere. It is obvious that both the geographical location and the easy access to the stone quarries played a crucial role in the decision to build Cöbeklitepe in this place. Gobekitepe is located about 32 kilometers northeastern of the center of the modern province of Sanhurfa, close to Örencik village. From this site it is possible to see the Taurus Mountains and Karacadag Mountain slopes towards the north and east; in the west there are views towards Sanlurfa and the Euphrates plateau; and in the south there are views towards the Harran plateau as far as the Syrian border. This location is possible to see from far away. If we assume that the monumental buildings of Göbeklitepe were cult buildings, it may be suggested that this location was deliberately choose in order for visiting groups to more easily find it.

Incredible tour of Sanliufra Museum and the P.P. Neolithic findings from Gobekli Tepe and other Tepe sites…

Şanlıurfa's huge museum devoted to this region's mind-boggling history is a must-do for any history fiends, with an astounding collection of artifacts on display from nearby excavation sites.

The museum's highlights are the exhibits devoted to Göbeklitepe, and the many other pre-pottery Neolithic archaeological sites scattered through the nearby countryside.

One of the collection's key pieces is the Urfa Man statue, considered the world's earliest life-size representation of a human and thought to date back to around 9000 BCE.
