Class 9's Summer 1 Learning Journey

Celebration!

In Class 9, we've had a fantastic half term! We've showed Miss Culshaw so many of the school values from being respectful all the way to being resilient!

Also a big well done to those children that met our attendance target of 97% or more!

Literacy

During Literacy this term we focused on the key text of ‘Hidden Figures’. We used skills such as technical vocabulary, persuasive devices and emotive language to create a formal letter to send to a judge! We thought carefully about how we would feel if we were in Mary’s position and reflected this in our final outcome.

LIRA

In LIRA this term, we firstly focused on The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. We enjoyed this book and many of us wanted to go on and finish it! We then moved onto looking at non fiction pieces all about inspirational black women which linked to our Literacy unit! During these topics we explored comprehension style questions and used our own opinion to give detailed answers!

Maths

In maths this half term we recapped fractions and geometry! We then applied our skills to problem solving and reasoning questions.. We really impressed Miss Culshaw with our resilience and determination to further our understanding and learning during our maths lessons! Keep up the brilliant work Class 9!

History

During this half term our focus has been on History where we have studied The Great Plague! During this unit we have explored different primary and secondary sources regarding the Plague. We have also been able to place the plague on a time line of key events. We have researched the village of Eyam and why it was so important during the time of the Plague. Finally finishing off the unit with making a quiz to test everybody’s knowledge. We have really enjoyed this unit of work!

RE

In RE we focused on the question 'How can faith contribute to community cohesion?' We enjoyed learning about how different religions use their faith to join in with the community. We also showed the British Value of tolerance during these RE lessons.

Computing

In computing we used the program ‘Scratch’ to code our own quiz. We learnt how to make selections and answer questions. We showed brilliant resilience during this topic!

In Class 9 we have continued to work hard on our spellings this half term. We are so proud of how our pupils have been working so hard to improve their spellings and their scores on Spelling Shed. Keep logging onto Spelling Shed and let's all continue to improve our spelling skills.

Enterprise Day

In Class 9, we had the pleasure of taking part in the Primary Enterprise Day. During this we planned, designed and presented ideas of a new playground. Some of us were lucky enough to win and will go and take part in the finals! We showed all the school values and were very proud of what we produced! Well done Class 9!

Reading Nooks!

Thank you to those children that entered the reading book competition, it was brilliant to see your creations come to life!

Don’t forget that after half term, every Monday and Friday we will be selling ice creams and ice lollies to raise money for the school library!

TT Rockstars Day - Going for Gold!

We had a brilliant day celebrating TT Rockstars day in Class 9! There were some brilliant costumes and it was brilliant to see everyone so enthusiastic about their timestables,

We also had some special visits in Class 9 this half term!

King’s Coronation

To celebrate the King’s coronation we had a special party and we also had a go at following a tutorial to draw the famous crown!
