- Alkaline Earth Metal
- Strong but fragile and a very lightweight Metal
- One of the highest melting points of light metals
- Non- magnetic
- Good conductor of Heat
- Density= 1.8g/cm3
History and Naming

- Louis-Nicolas Vauquelin
- Overlooked because of aluminum like look
- Suggested calling it glucinium meaning "sweet tasting" in Greek
- One compound sweet yet very toxic.
Uses of Beryllium

- In Nuclear plants
- Airplanes, Spacecrafts and Satellites
- For strong machine parts
- Springs
Where is Beryllium found on earth?
- Mostly America and Russia
- Utah= about 2/3 of world production
- Also mined in China and Brazil
