Superintendent's Summary DR. JACK PARKER ~ 9.30.22

We close the first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year and head into fall break experiencing one of the best quarters in a long time. While the teacher shortage has hit Mt. Vernon (like it has all districts), we are seeing numerous new hires in our classified staff with positions filled that we haven’t been able to fill in a long time. We are working hard on providing additional support to our elementary schools as many of those young students are still catching up on lost learning. Enrollment is up by 92 students this year as we are sitting at 4,543 students K-12 with another 120 in our Mini-Marauder Preschool.

This fall break is 2-weeks long and is certainly a perfect opportunity to enjoy the late/summer weather we have been experiencing. With how hard everyone has been working, the respite is well earned! (Next year’s fall break will be only 1-week long as we moved an extra week into the summer of 2023.) Find some time with family and friends to recharge your batteries before we come back for quarter 2 and all of the amazing activities during that part of the year!

HES Accreditation

All five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation have earned a Highly Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation is a significant achievement that reflects all five schools’ commitment to reaching and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality. Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, Fortville Elementary School, McCordsville Elementary School, and Mt. Comfort Elementary School earned this accreditation by maintaining and growing identified areas having the biggest impact on student learning and growth. These areas are directly aligned to the Professional Learning Communities at Work® (PLC) process and the High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework. This accreditation demonstrates the dedication our staff and school leaders have to continue their mission to help students become successful in and out of the classroom. We are so proud of the continuing efforts our staff has to provide a positive academic experience for students to develop a lasting love of learning. See the website article for details.
