PROMOTION AND DISSEMINATION

Promotion and dissemination are an important part of the Erasmus+ project experience. Sharing our project outputs can raise awareness among stakeholders and create future opportunities. Facebook offers a smart way to get our project news out to a wide range of audiences. It is a great low-cost way to share our Erasmus+ stories and experiences.

WHAT IS A FACEBOOK PAGE

It is a one-page meeting place, with information, links, a message forum box, RSS and anything else we want. All we need is a Facebook account!

WHY A FACEBOOK PAGE

Facebook is the most important social network in the world, even if it is not so trendy among young people.

A Facebook Page acts like a web page, where the focus is the content we put out to the public.

There are three main ways we can use Facebook: with a regular Profile, as a Page, or as a Group admin. Here we consider only the second choice.

HOW TO CREATE A FECEBOOK PAGE

Let's go directly to the Facebook Page creation wizard visiting facebook.com/pages, and find the link "Create Page" on the upper-right area of the next area.

THE PAGE NAME

When we're in this early stage of creating our page, we'll be asked for the page name. This is how it will appear at the top of the page, and every single post you create.

The name is very important so be brief and exact.

A PROFILE IMAGE

Profile Image is the thumbnail image representing the page. Our profile image is the logo fo our project.

360x360 pixels ideal (180x180 pixel minimum), PNG/JPG/GIF.

Facebook Page profile picture is a perfectly square image that represents our page - it appears in search and next to any post we make anywhere on Facebook (just like how our profile image appears). We used our logo here. If logo has words or is traditionally wide, we might want to design an alternate box-accommodating version of it.

A COVER IMAGE

Cover Image is the big banner image on the top of our page. 828x465 pixels, PNG/JPG/GIF. Here our cover image:

The cover image is basically a big graphical banner at the top of the page. It appears differently on mobile as it does on desktop. PNG images look best for cover images. Don't type out text on these images, because it will either get cut off entirely or become too small to read on mobile.

ABOUT SECTION

Under the name of the page and profile image there is a menu of additional areas of our page. Usually hidden under a "view more" link, there is the "About" section. Let's fill out the required, valuable and interesting information. This information might be used by Google.

CREATING CONTENT

Body Area: some starting content

It would be a huge fail to release a Facebook page that has a barren body area. It's recommended to put at least 5 posts on there before launch, just to make it look like our project is actually alive.

A Facebook Page needs constant updating. We have to be willing to update it regularly. It should have signs of life every week.

We have to deliver project news and information, participant stories, regularly.

But quality over quantity is a good principle to follow.

Photo and video: On every social media, posts including photos and graphics, perform much better than those which don’t. Creating posts with engaging visual content is, therefore, a much more effective way of reaching and engaging with our audience. This could include photos or videos of Erasmus+ project participants during their activities or infographics.

Creating engaging content is important in building our social following, but social media is a two-way conversation. By liking, sharing, commenting and replying to posts and followers we can build a relationship with our audience.

We can go live on Facebook using Facebook Live Producer. We can get there directly by going to facebook.com/live/producer. Or from our Facebook page, by clicking the Live button. We could use this option in order to broadcast live events concerning our project.

The last step: let’s invite Facebook friends to follow our project page. Let’s put a link on our website project encouraging to follow our page and share it on other social media profiles.
