Term 1 Week 2 Newsletter 2023

As this is our first edition of the Anzac Park PS newsletter for the year, I would like to warmly welcome you back to school. Each new year is an exciting time and is naturally full of new possibilities, new challenges and new adventures. It is a time when we can reflect with renewed energy on what is possible, embrace new plans and build on our past successes. I have been thrilled to see our whole school community doing this with vigour over the past few days! We have formed 34 classes across the school for 2023. I’m really proud of all of these new students and their families who have settled in so well.

Meet The Teacher Evening & Welcome BBQ

Thursday 16 February

Our teachers are looking forward to sharing their plans for the 2023 school year at our Meet the Teacher Evening. This year we will be combining our annual Meet The Teacher Evening with our P&C Welcome BBQ. The team at Anzac Park are excited about this wonderful community event!

Email Etiquette at Anzac Park

Anzac Park Public School is committed to open, honest and timely communication. We are also committed to communication being respectful, measured and constructive. In adhering to these principles we aim to strengthen the goodwill and the positive partnership between parents and the school, to enhance the wellbeing and learning opportunities for our students. We acknowledge that email is very convenient for parents who are working and find it difficult to catch up with school staff during regular work hours. Having said that, our school community values face-to-face and telephone conversations, and understands that these forms of communication are preferred in many situations.

Anzac Park Email Guidelines

Avoid emailing your child's teacher to find out information that can be be found from another source (such as the newsletter, the school website/grade website or a friend). Our teachers' focus is on creating the very best learning experiences for your child. Let's work together as a community to reduce the amount of time that responding to emails is taking away from our teachers core task of teaching.
Emails are at their best when they are brief and informative. Issues that require a level of detailed discussion should be dealt with in person or over the phone. As a guide, if an email to your child's teacher is more than 5 lines, request a time to speak to your child's teacher in person or over the phone instead.
Make sure the purpose of your email is clear…do you require specific action or is the email for information only? At the beginning of an email the sender can use ‘No reply necessary’ to convey an information sharing email only.
Emails should always be respectful and constructive. If the email relates to a concern or problem, it ought to be focused on understanding the problem and finding a solution. Avoid sending negative or confrontational emails. Email is not to be used to vent. We never say in an email what we wouldn’t say to the recipient’s face.
Please only send non-vital messages by this medium. For example, do not use email to inform a teacher that your child is not to go to after school care that afternoon, as the teacher may not see the email in time. Remember that between 8.30am-3.30pm teachers are teaching your child and may not get to read emails until after school. Instead use the telephone to contact the office.
Please don’t seek to discuss in detail your child’s academic progress, learning expectations, or behavioural issues via email. These are best addressed over the phone or in person.
Remember to respect staff personal time, including weekends and holidays. Parents shouldn’t send emails outside of work hours and expect an immediate response. Staff will aim to reply to parent emails within 2 working days.
Staff will not respond to offensive, threatening or abusive emails or emails containing offensive language and should forward them to the school principal.

Our Annual Swimming Carnival Friday 3 Feb

Our annual Swimming Carnival will be held this Friday at Lane Cove Pool for all students in Years 3-6 (and students in Year 2 who are turning 8 in 2023). The forecast is for a sunny and warm day. Please make sure your child has their hat, sunscreen and appropriate sunsafe clothing for the day. All students attending the carnival will need to be at school by 8.30am on Friday as buses will be departing at 8.45am. Students are to go straight to their Hub at 8.30am on Friday.

Anaphylaxis Reminder – Please ensure NO nuts or nut products are brought to school

If your child is diagnosed at risk of a severe allergic reaction, particularly anaphylaxis, the anaphylaxis procedures contains information for schools and parents designed to minimise the risk to students. If your child has an allergy it is important to let us know. All families are asked to assist the children in our school who are anaphylactic. This is potentially a life threatening condition. Please do not send any of the following foods for your own children, whilst they are at school:

  • Peanuts and other nuts including cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios, macadamia, brazil nuts
  • Peanut Butter or Nutella
  • Muesli bars containing nuts or any other foods containing nuts.
