Chaps complete three-peat and win seventh men's outdoor track title

Utica, NY - The College of DuPage (IL) Chaparrals claimed the 2023 NJCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, their third consecutive championship.

DuPage accumulated 144.5 points over 22 team-scored events. The Chaps were able to narrowly edge out Mineral Area (MO) who finished closely behind in second with 130.5 points. RCSJ Gloucester (NJ), Thaddeus Stevens (NJ), and Suffolk County (NY) rounded out the top five.

Final Standings

DuPage finished in first place for the third straight year. Mineral Area and RCSJ Gloucester round out the top three team finishers.

Road to Victory

DuPage narrowly won the championship title with 144.5 points. The Chaps finished within the top three in eleven total events, taking home gold in seven.

Freshman Noah Mack put together a strong week, winning the 100m, and 200m, and was a part of the 4x100m team who also finished in first.

Freshman Sheldon Powell had a strong showing in the 3000m Steeplechase, finishing with a mark of 9:45.40.

Cardinals finish as runner-up for the second consecutive year

The Cardinals came up just short with 130.5 points and took home second for the second straight year. They finished within the top three in ten total events while winning the Decathlon, 10,000m, 1,500m, and 400m.

Freshman thrower Trenton Braswell had a fantastic week, finishing within the top three of the shot put, discus throw, and javelin.

Hunter Cary was able to win his second straight Decathlon with a score of 5,429. Cary won the 100m, 400m, 100 mH, and Javelin throw in the Decathlon.

Roadrunners finish third

RCSJ Gloucester rounded out the top three with a final score of 81 points. Roadrunner student-athletes earned top-three finishes in six total events.

Sophomore Chris Guerrieri scored 16 points for the Roadrunners by winning the Shot Put and finishing third in the Hammer Throw. Michael Taylor finished first in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.67, which the sophomore achieved on his first throw.
