First Year Experience Digital Welcome Package, VOL. 2

Welcome to the First-Year Experience Digital Welcome Package - Midterms edition!

Your passport to success at Northern Arizona University!

Educational persistence will require more than good grades and study strategies. Educational persistence will require that our individual values, aspirations, and dreams drive our hard work.

It's Midterms Season!

What are midterms?

Midterms can be stressful for a lot of students, and it is challenging to balance studying for all your different courses. Below you will find numerous resources to help you stay on top of your classes during this busy time.

Visit the Academic Success Centers

The Academic Success Centers offer a wide range of academic support services, from 1-1 tutoring to supplemental instruction to peer academic coaching. Services are free to students and are geared towards supporting student success!

Study Tips Spotlight

Use the Pomodoro technique while studying to stay focused and on track. A "Pomodoro" is 25 minutes long, followed by a 3-5 minute break. Although it may be tempting to skip taking a break when you feel that you are making great progress, they are important to keeping your stamina up and reducing mental fatigue.

Find your study spot on campus!

Cline Library

Cline Library is a great place to study, solo or with friends. Located right in the center of campus, Cline has a variety of study spaces to offer. One thing to note - the higher you climb, the quieter it gets!

Here are some other study spots:

  • Health & Learning Center (Second and third floors) - Big comfy seats and lots of natural light!
  • The DuB - Plenty of study snacks to choose from!
  • University Union - Like the DuB, plenty of food and different seating areas!
  • Campus Coffee Bean - Located just off campus across the street from Target!

Students Spotlight

Meet some of your fellow first-year students - Kaitlyn, Marley, and Sylus! Kaitlyn's favorite place in Flagstaff is The Geekery, a game store located just off campus. Marley is currently watching Lucifer and said her favorite memory so far is moving here with her friends. Sylus recommends checking out the sand volleyball courts on campus!

Enjoy some Fall Fun!

Even with the demands of school, it is important to get out and experience some fall festivities. At NAU and in Flagstaff, there are tons of amazing opportunities to explore!

Rooted in community, this event is a partnership between the Museum of Northern Arizona and Flagstaff's Nuestras Raices. Don't miss the music, dancing, colorful ofrendas, and more - October 23 & 24, 2021.
