Youth Programs We work with community members to help with our mission to promote self efficacy by teaching prevention skills to youth who are at risk for substance abuse and other risky behaviors.

Project Turnaround

Project Turnaround also has a mascot named PETEY (Prevention Education To Every Youth), a friendly turtle, who loves to mingle and share a drug-free message at health fairs, schools, and community events.

Project Turnaround currently services the Coastal Bend community in the following six counties: Nueces, San Patricio, Jim Wells, Live Oak, Brooks and Bee.

Project Turnaround provides an evidenced-based curriculum called Too Good For Drugs (TGFD) to 1st-12th grade students in 30-45 minute sessions, once a week, for 10 weeks. The TGFD curriculum teaches participants resiliency skills like goal-setting, how to resist peer pressure, good decision making, and effective communication. These skills are intended to help prevent youth from making the decision to use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Project Turnaround provides prevention education presentations (i.e. Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription Drugs, Marijuana, and Synthetic Drugs) to the community, and host annual community events (i.e. Break the Norm, PETEY’s Back to School Bash, Great American Smokeout, Tobacco-Free Kids Day, and Shade Out Drugs) to bring awareness to the community and provide a safe and healthy alternative.

Project Turnaround is funded by the Department of State Health Services. All services are FREE and can be conducted at a school or community site.

To schedule a group, presentation, or community event, please call the Youth Programs Director at (361) 814-2001.

Project HOPE is a community coalition addressing the use of alcohol, prescription drugs, and marijuana in Nueces County. Project HOPE’s purpose is to encourage community mobilization to implement evidence-based environmental strategies with the primary focus on changing polices and social norms in communities to prevent and reduce substance abuse.

We are seeking the following sectors: youth, young adults, parents, business communities, media, schools, youth serving organizations, law enforcement agencies, faith-based organizations, civic/volunteer groups, healthcare professionals, state and local government agencies with expertise in the field of substance abuse, recovery communities, Education Service Center (ESC), Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHAs), and other organizations involved in reducing substance abuse. Monthly meetings are held at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, usually on the last Wednesday of the month and open to the community.

Project HOPE is available for prevention education presentations discussing alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs. We also attend community events to promote awareness regarding the health consequences of substance use and abuse. Project HOPE is funded by the Department of State Health Services. All services are FREE and can be conducted at a school or community site.
