Harvest Festival

It was wonderful to be able to return this year to the Ullesthorpe Congregational Church to celebrate Harvest. Thank you Anna for hosting the service and to all the families and friends who also joined us.

Birch Class lead us all in a celebration of all the gifts we have and to give thanks for the harvest. Well done Birch Class!

Thank you to everyone for your very generous donations of food for the Lutterworth and villages Foodbank. We were able to take 18 large bags of groceries to their local depot.

A huge thank you to Helen Pettigrew and her band of very sparkly and glamorous assistants for organising a fantastic Bingo fundraiser.

What a fabulous way to relaunch the PTA and your hard work really showed through. The event was such good fun with an array of amazing prizes. And into incredible £570 raised for our school! THANK YOU to everyone who supported the event.

October Birthdays

We wish the following children a very happy birthday this October

Molly, Olivia, Gracie, Harry J, Alex, Maison, Finn, Suki, Emily B, Isaac F, Edward, Phoebe, Jessica, Freddy W, Rory, Cansen

Skip2Bfit

We were all very excited to welcome David from Skip2BFit into school. He delivered some fantastic workshops to each class and we are now ready to start our skipping journey. Each of us knows our PB and are determined to break it!

At the end of the day we had a celebration assembly to recognise the effort we had put in!

Skip2Bfit skipping workshops help children in their education through:

* Improving fitness levels, as it starts a skipping epidemic in the school

* Impacting on pupils’ ability to learn through improving self esteem, motivation, concentration and thinking skills across the curriculum.

* Raising Aspirations as children realise that the 'Yes Feeling' they get when they improve on their skipping scores, can also impact positively on their class work-

* Encourages healthy eating

Here are our Year group Champion Skippers. Our Supreme Champions are Wacky for the children and Mrs Bostock for the adults.

Yes! The Comic Strip is back!

Willow Class

The children in Willow Class have been busy learning how to retell the story of, The Little Red Hen. They had a fun time roleplaying and putting on different character voices.

We then of course helped each other to make real bread rolls. They certainly smelled delicious!

In maths, they have been comparing length, height and also making some repeating patterns using natural materials.

Outdoors they found and observed closely a very interesting caterpillar, which was perfect as we have learnt ‘c’ for caterpillar this week.

Maple Class

Maple class has had a busy month of learning.

During our Science topic, we conducted an experiment to observe the correlation between hand length and total height. With the help of a partner, we measured and recorded our own hand length and height and then compared this with the other children in class- plotting the results on a graph. We noticed a pattern; the longer the hand length, the taller the person!

In Geography, we have continued exploring the UK and its countries and capital cities and, as part of our P.E, we have been practising our footwork and dodging skills through tag rugby.

In R.E, we have been learning the importance of belonging and how different religious groups show a sense of belonging through their traditions, customs and practices.

During out music lessons, we have been learning to identify pulse and rhythm and have been practising creating our own rhythms through clapping and singing.

In literacy, we have enjoyed creating our own class kenning which we then performed to the rest of the school! We then created and performed our own group kennings about animals to the rest of the class!

Birch Class

There have been lots of ‘Wow’ moments in Birch class this month

For our RE topic, we are thinking about Creation and the beauty of God’s Earth. We went out into our school grounds to take photographs of the things that make us go ‘Wow’. Please enjoy some of our beautiful photography.

We had a visit from the Life Education team and they talked to us about our Amazing Brains. We thought about how our brains learn best and what our bodies need to help us be the best learners we can be. We even got to say hello to Harold the Giraffe

We need to keep our bodies fit too and David from Skip2BFit helped us learn how to do that. We had a great time learning to skip and challenging ourselves to do our PB. Some of us got over 100 skips in 2 minutes.

Don’t miss next month’s newsletter when Birch Class will share our complete Egyptian Scroll artwork with you and Year 4 will tell you more about their Beaumanor Hall Residential visit.

Oak Class.

October has been a very exciting month in Oak Class.

We have taken part in the Skip to be Fit day, created some powerful artwork, built dens in the classroom, Y6 have visited The Warning Zone ... and... our football players (all 22 of them) to the Small Schools' Football Tournament by storm!

We were extremely impressed by the way in which the pupils in Oak Class represented our school wherever they have been. The staff at the Warning Zone were impressed by the children's manners as well as their knowledge about keeping safe. At the football tournament it was noted that our players were courteous to spectators and gracious in both victory and defeat.

Poem Portraits

We have been investigating self-portraits by a range of artists. We used mirrors or photographs of ourselves as a starting point for developing own unique self-portraits in mixed-media. Our outlines are made from poems that we have chosen to reflect who we are.

The Warning Zone's mission is: “To provide a high-quality interactive learning experience which will help Year 6 children and upwards make their transition into adolescence safer by giving them some of the tools needed to become responsible members of their local community.” Our Yr6 children engaged brilliantly with all the activities. It was thought provoking stuff!

Here's part of what Rosie had to say about the visit:

' On Thursday we went to the warning Zone. It was really good fun as wellas a bit scary. First we watched a video about some children taking risks. Next we pretended to drive a real car and experienced how some people are not safe on the roads. After that we went into a room with a fake train track. One of group was asked to pick up a frisbee from the track and a really loud sound of a train whooshing by made us feel how dangerous railway tracks are.'

Den Building - a reward for earning a full jar of marbles. marbles are earned thorough showing our Christian values and great work.

Fabulous Footballers!

Year 6 Tournament Winners!

Year 5 Tournament Runners Up - Brilliant!

Mixed year 5/6 - placed mid table - incredible!

Well done to the Tournament Winners!
