Net Primary Productivity
Compared to other biomes, the New Zealand temperate rain forests has moderately high rainfall, and a 5 to 6 month growing season. Their temperate rain forest has some of the contiguous areas of native vegetation and are 1 of 5 major temperate rainforests in the world. This biome is found in latitude and longitude coordinates of: -43.525650, 172.639847. The net primary productivity of the temperate rain forest is 6000 kilocalories per square miles/ per year. The approximate kilocalories per square meter per day is 16.
Soil Quality
The soil in the New Zealand temperate rainforest is very fertile since it is enriched with falling leaves, twigs, logs, and dead organisms. The soil has a 5 to 6 month growing season. Some forests were cut down and have been converted to agricultural regions.
Clematis Vitalba
Due to its viability, and climbing behavior, clematis vitalba is an invasive plant. In New Zealand, it is considered an "unwanted organism". It is a potential threat to native plants since it grows vigorously and forms a canopy which smothers all other plants and has no natural controlling organisms. It is unknown how the species arrived on native land.

Kea
The Kea is a Nationally endangered species in New Zealand with only a few thousand birds remaining. The traits that the Kea developed for survival, have created conflict with humans over the last 150 years. Poaching and predation have sorely depleted their numbers.
