Newsletter 11th February 2022

This week is Children's Mental Health week. This year's theme is Growing Together.

We’re encouraging children (and adults) to consider how they have grown and how they can help others to grow.

We started the week discussing that Growing Together is about growing emotionally and finding ways to help each other grow. Challenges and setbacks can help us to grow and adapt and trying new things can help us to move beyond our comfort zone into a new realm of possibility and potential. However, emotional growth is often a gradual process that happens over time, and sometimes we might feel a bit ‘stuck’.

There is also this assembly, put together by Place2Be, if you would like to watch it at home with your children:

School life

Another busy week in school with some amazing story writing, wonderful maths and creative Art. It has been a real joy to see how Key Stage 2 have been progressing with their times tables over the past few weeks, this is shown in how quick they are answering their questions on TTRockstar.

We were lucky enough to welcome Mr Jones into school to read some of his stories this week to Nursery and Key Stage 1. They children were enthralled by them and went back to their classes trying to add rhyme and description into their writing for the rest of the week.

A big well done to the Basketball team who played well this week. They showed real 'passion' and played well. Well done to them all.

Here is this week's stimulus:

You might want to use this story starter:

She held hope in her outstretched hands. Kneeling gently on the ground, she prepared herself for what she knew she must do. The loose soil crumbled through her muddy fingers, and the soft, black earth felt comfortingly warm on her palms.

Planting the tree of life would mean a new beginning. The opportunities were endless…

Feeling the excitement course through her quivering body, she lowered the tree of life into the small hole she had prepared. It was time

beat the street

Keep an eye out for after Half Term when we will be taking part in Beat the Street. Let's work together to be active and see if we can be top of the league when it starts.

NSPCC Number day

Thank you to those who have donated for Number Day last week. We raised a total of:

nursery

At Galley Hill Primary School, we offer high quality Early Years provision within our nursery unit. The nursery has space for 39 children aged 3 to 4 years old for a morning session and another 39 children for an afternoon session.

Parents/carers can access both their Universal 15 hours funding or 30 Hours Extended Entitlement per week for 38 weeks per year during term time.

Parents wishing to access this Extended funding must meet the criteria and apply on line through the digital childcare service (https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/) .

HMRC is responsible for checking whether a parent is eligible and issuing an eligibility code. Once you receive your 11 digit eligibility code you must bring this along with your National Insurance number to the school office. Parents will be required to sign a parent/school contract stating when and where children are accessing their 15 hours or 30 hours’ free entitlement. Children attending the Nursery for 30 hours will be allocated these hours. This will be done on a first come, first served basis, with a waiting list then being generated.

Regulations prescribe that children become eligible for free 15 hours early years provision on the dates set out below:

Additional sessions are subject to availability.

Additional sessions and charges will be added to the parent/ school contract.

Additional sessions must be booked Termly and paid for monthly via Parentmail or childcare vouchers.

School Dinners

Next week is week 2

fogh

I had the privilege of joining a FOGH meeting this week. There are lots of exciting ideas and events that will soon be publicised. Keep your eyes out.

It would be fantastic if some of you were able to offer a helping hand at some of the events as well, many hands make light work and the fundraising helps support school to offer the children some amazing opportunities and experiences.

Value Award

Congratulations to Ella Lawther for showing amazing resilience and super reading this week, winning the Value award from Head Girl and Boy this week. Well done.

If you have any old toy figures that are sat around at home not being used any more and you don't know what to do with them, we will take them off your hands. We are looking to expand our Small World area - so anything like toy car garages, cars, figures would be greatly appreciated.
