What will my camper learn from this experience?

Your camper will be exposed to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) by interacting with professionals in those fields. The camp focuses on building students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills through scientific hands-on lessons and collaborative environments. Through scientific research, campers will explore the solar system in which we reside, as well as galaxies outside of our own. The week of camp will allow students to keep an astronaut training journal, fly a Challenger Learning Center Lunar Quest simulation, learn about NASA’s most recent Artemis mission, create their own mission patches, build their own spacecraft and Martian habitat, and much more.

Will my child be outside during the day?

Yes, campers will participate in various activities outside during the day for both astronaut physical training (exercise) and to give them the opportunity to get some fresh air. Please ensure that your camper has appropriate sunscreen and layers that lets them be comfortable outside.

What should I pack for my child?

  • Please pack your camper a reusable water bottle, a lunch and two snacks—a morning snack and an afternoon snack. A refrigerator is not available, and we will not have the option to offer purchased lunches. Good nutrition is important to Astronauts-in-training! It is recommended that campers have a healthy breakfast prior to arrival at camp and pack lunches and snacks that include brain-powering foods such as string cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, fruits and vegetables, sandwich, and healthy granola bars.
  • Clothing that is comfortable, cool, and can withstand outdoor activities.
  • Sneakers or other closed-toed shoes (please no flip flops or sandals).
  • Prescribed EpiPens, inhalers, or other medication. Please notify us about this when completing the camp form(s).
  • You are welcome to send bug repellent and sunscreen, but children must be able to self-administer it if needed and all products must be marked with child’s first and last name.

My camper has an allergy or medical need. Who do I inform?

Please complete the online form that will be provided at the time of registration. While we cannot be responsible for administering medications, it is helpful to have this information available.

Inclusion and Diversity Statement

Janet’s Planet is committed to contributing to a culture that ensures equal opportunity for all, celebrates uniqueness, and prioritizes collaboration and unity. Indeed, we are all 100% Star Stuff. Janet’s Planet believes that our uniqueness, ethnicities, and eclectic cultures should be celebrated and honored. Inclusive and diverse, this is who we want to be as we venture into the stars. We can’t be good crew mates out there if we are not first good crew mates here. Our future in space will be determined by who we resolve to be on Earth, today and that’s the view from Janet’s Planet.

We accommodate students with multiple superpowers like ADD, ADHD, ASD, and others. We must be informed however of special requirements. Also, parents must inform staff and venue of ADHD, ADD, ASD, and/or anxiety issues. A parent/guardian must include information about their child so that we can accommodate and address student needs appropriately. Failure to do so by parent/guardian may result in expulsion from camp if a student is a harm to themselves or others or cannot handle the rigors of a full day at camp.

With advance notice, the staff can make program modifications to accommodate students’ needs. The staff cannot and will not be able to make program modifications upon arrival.
