Southern Pinto Bean Soup Myfreakinkitchen

Southern Pinto Bean Soup

Another southern classic that my mom had simmering when me and my sister came home from school. ❤️

Ingredients

Just throw all the ingredients in the slow cooker and let it do it’s thing.

Of course you have to drizzle on your favorite hot sauce! I also use a dollop of sour cream… 🤫

🫘 1 large ham hock or smoked Turkey wing

🫘 1 large yellow or red onion diced

🫘 2 carrots peeled and chopped

🫘 1 celery stalk split and chopped

🫘 1 tbsp minced garlic

🫘 3 tbsp Mrs. Dash OR 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning salt

🫘 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

🫘 7 Cups Water and 2 chicken bouillon cube or replace with 7 cups of chicken stock

🫘 Chopped green onions for garnishing

Instructions

Seasonings are your friend! Use them well.

This is so good! Make sure you have some cornbread and hot sauce ready to go!

1. After sorting and washing the beans, put them in the crock pot.

2. Add in the onions, garlic, and ham hock ( or substitution).

3. Pour in the water, then sprinkle in the seasonings.

4. Cover the Crock Pot, then set in on high for 6 hours.

5. Once the beans are done, serve them over rice.

6. Garnish with green onions and your favorite hot sauce ( optional).

Enjoy❤️!

PS. Don’t forget the cornbread!
