National Qualifying Meet

On Saturday, March 5th, the Mammoths traveled to Tufts to compete at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet, a last chance opportunity to qualify to compete at the Indoor National Track & Field Championships.

Jordan Hecker clearing a bar in the pole vault earlier in the season

The first event of the day for the Mammoths was the women's pole vault, and Jordan Hecker and Eve Giancarlo both jumped well! They both cleared 3.36 meters (11' 0.25") and took good attempts at the next bar, which was 3.51 meters (11' 6.25")

The first event on the track for the day was the women's distance medley relay, and the team of Julia Schor, Anna Madden, Ava Zielinski and Sidnie Kulik toed the line with some of the best teams in the nation!

Julia Schor led off for the Mammoths on the 1200 leg and ran a great leg for the Mammoths, handing off the baton to Anna Madden in a great position. Anna got out hard for her 400 leg and opened up a gap on the competitors behind her. After a great handoff from Anna to Ava Zielinski, Ava got out well and made a great move two laps into the race of her 800 leg. Ava handed the baton to Sidnie Kulik, who ran hard on her 1600 leg, anchoring the relay. The Mammoths finished the race in fifth place in a time of 12:02, which is the fastest the Mammoths have ran in the event since 2013 season!

Julia Schor racing the mile

Not even two hours after running the 1200 leg of the DMR, Julia stepped back onto the track to run the mile and ran a great race, running a fantastic time of 5:11, all the more impressive with limited recovery time after the DMR!

Chris Gong long jumping at a meet last weekend

Over in the field, Chris Gong placed second in the long jump with a jump of 6.72 meters (22' 0.75") and Julia Zacher placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5' 3.25").

Wilson Spurrell running the 800

For the third weekend in a row, Wilson Spurrell set a personal best in the 800! Getting out hard, Wilson carried his momentum to a personal best time of 1:55!

Henry Buren running in the 60 dash final

Henry Buren ran great in both the 60 dash prelims and finals, running a time of 7.01 seconds in the prelims and 6.96 seconds in the final, tying his second-best 60 dash time!

Kelechi Eziri on the triple jump runway

Kelechi Eziri entered Saturday's meet with a season best jump of 14.05 meters (46' 1.25"), which he jumped last weekend at the D3 New England Championships to place third. He was happy with last weekend's jump, which was just off his personal best jump of 14.09 meters (46' 2.75") which he jumped as a first year to break the school record.

Kelechi exploded on his second jump at Saturday's meet, jumping 14.32 meters (46' 11.75") to demolish his prior personal best and school record!

Anna Madden leading off the 4x400 relay

As she's done all season, Anna Madden led off the 4x400 relay and ran a great leg for her second race of the day, making a great move to put the Mammoths in first as she handed off to Juanita Jaramillo for the second leg.

Juanita Jaramillo

Juanita Jaramillo ran a great second leg, responding to pressure from a competitor and pulled away from the field on the second lap, giving Casie Eifrig the baton three seconds ahead of the closest team.

Casie Eifrig running the third leg

Similar to Juanita's leg, Casie Eifrig ran a great leg and distanced herself from the field as they tried to catch up to the Mammoths, and Casie gave the baton to Katie Lingen with a decisive lead.

Katie Lingen anchoring the relay

Katie Lingen grabbed the baton and ran away from the field and brought the Mammoths across the line in a time of 3:53.51, a school record time! This time ranks them 9th nationally, qualifying them for Nationals!
