Headteacher Comment

This week has seen lots of celebrations happening for Lunar New Year - I think that we are going need a good dose of resilience and bravery as we come out of the pandemic. As you may realise, there has been an increase in cases in the school and in the local community in the past week, and I want to thank you for your patience and understanding whilst Year Three has been learning online.

Next week is Children's Mental Health Week and we are looking forward to starting the week by joining in with a nationally broadcast assembly. The theme of this year's CMHW is resilience and growth. Children may wear Mufti (their own clothes) to express their own personalities on Friday 11th February.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Appleby

Happy New Year!

Dragonflies and Busy Bees have been learning all about the celebrations for Lunar New Year also known as Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the tiger which is the sign of courage and bravery, so the New Year could symbolize resilience and strength. Everyone was all excited as we cooked and tried some chow mein noodles and prawn crackers. The last thing the class did was paint a fierce Chinese dragon so they could have a traditional dragon dance altogether.

Stone Age Fun

Year Two had lots of fun visiting Irchester Country Park this week to experience a Stone Age day. They were transported back in time and learnt lots of new facts. They made bows and arrows, dens made of sticks and even made fire! What a brilliant (but chilly!) day! If you'd like to visit the park yourself, there's lots of half-term fun planned - there's a link below the picture.

Year Two

Art in the Nursery

This week in Ladybirds, the children have been exploring textures as they discover paint and foam! They enjoyed mixing two colours together and getting a little messy! The children have also been participating in activities that link with this terms topics: they have role played with the dinosaurs and painted trees for the different seasons. The children have also used their communication and language skills as well as their literature when focusing on the story 'Dear Zoo' and joining in with their friends with the linked activities.

Cyber Bullying Assembly

PCSO Mike Bowes visited us on Wednesday to remind us of the importance of E-Safety, with a focus on cyberbullying. Mike reminded us that social media is a great tool for keeping in touch with friends and family, but there are people who will use social media for the wrong reasons. We learnt that it is really important to keep our good standards online as well as offline.

Things to remember:

  • Only have people you know on your social media
  • Remember your digital footprint before sharing anything online, including images.
  • If you use social media to bully people, the Police can use your messages as evidence.
  • Never share personal information on your social media – including your address or the school you attend
  • If you are worried, click the “report abuse” button.
  • Check your privacy settings!

Cyberbullying is rising, with our increased us of technology. We must be careful about what we say online, because it says more about us than it does about the people we are posting about.

These have been updated for the classes in 2021-22, so click on the link for the class you will be in in September.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
