Dragon Journal March 17, 2023

Dear Schroeder Parents,

The Schroeder staff will spend a large amount of time preparing class lists for the following school year. Our placement teams and teachers will have numerous meetings and carefully place each individual student. We consider this an important task and put forth the effort in making sure that all students are placed appropriately. We consider each child’s strengths, needs and friendships very carefully.

The class lists are constructed to create a relatively equal balance in numerous class components. This helps teachers serve and educate all students appropriately. Like other elementary schools in Troy, Schroeder does not accept specific teacher requests. You may, however, write a letter if you would like to share unique information regarding your child’s needs for academic success. Please understand that you do not need to submit a letter. Our placement teams will still strategically place your child with care. We ask that you follow the items listed below.

  • Please do not request specific teachers.
  • The letter must be a paper copy. We ask that you do not send emails. Drop the letter in the office vestibule or send via U.S. mail.
  • Address the letter to me, Mr. Canfield.
  • At the top list your child’s name and grade for NEXT YEAR.
  • The letter should be signed and dated.
  • The letter should include a brief description of the learning environment that best matches your child’s unique learning needs.
  • Letters must be submitted by April 7th.

Please remember that writing a letter is not required. Some parents may feel the need to share unique information. Please keep in mind that this letter is only a request. We cannot always accommodate everyone’s preference. Our staff will work hard to place students to experience success. If you feel the need to write a placement letter, it must be turned into the office by Thursday, April 14th. Letters turned in after this deadline will not be considered.

Thank you, Mr. Brian Canfield
