"BLESSED CHRISTMAS!"

Hi everyone,

It’s Christmas season again. It’s the second Christmas that we will be spending under the shadow of the global Covid-19 Pandemic. As real and as disruptive the Pandemic is, it is not the greatest moment in human history. The greatest moment in human history is when God became flesh, moved into our world, lived amongst us and eventually gave His life for us. The impact of that moment in history still reverberates today globally.

Christmas reminds us of the peace of God and the power of God to save us from the cruelty of sin and the bondage of the devil.

“Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men! (Luke 2:10-14)

Jesus is called Saviour! He’s not an example or a teacher, but a Saviour! If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent an entertainer. If our greatest need had been military, God would have sent a soldier. If our greatest need had been for justice, God would have sent a judge. But, our greatest need was forgiveness and redemption and, therefore, God sent a Saviour!

The virus came and will go, but God came to us, has never and will never leave us! “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us” (Matt. 1:23). The strength and grace of God is available for us as we navigate through this challenging season in the world.

As we meditate on the birth of Christ this Christmas, and God’s infinite love for us that caused Him to send His only beloved Son, let us be assured of God’s unending grace and provision as we rejoice in God today.

Paul puts it so clearly in Romans 8:32

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”

Let us rise up as priests together, as the church to pray and stand in the gap for friends and family, for the church, community and nations.
