First Day of Camp

Residential Check-In: The first day of camp for residential students is Sunday, June 9th. Camp check­-in will be between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Cougar Village 1. The address to Cougar Village 1 at the University of Houston is 4385 Cougar Village Dr, Houston, TX.

Parking: will be available at Cougar Village Parking Lot. Cougar Village first floor is directly across the street from the Cougar Village Parking Lot. Please see an interactive campus map here.

Commuter Check-In: Commuters will start with a commuter drop-off on Monday morning, June 12th, behind Cougar Village 1. Our staff will be there to check in your campers each morning. Please do not leave your camper without checking them in with a staff member. You will check in your camper at 8:30 a.m. each morning and pick them up at 5:00 p.m. each evening. We do not offer early check-in or later check-out. Drop off and pick up will take place at the circle behind Cougar Village 1. Commuters

Commuter Drop-off will be at 8:30 a.m. every morning at the commuter drop-off point with the exception of Sunday, June 16th. Commuters are off this day. Commuters do not arrive on Sundays.

Commuter Pick up will be 5:00 p.m. every evening. We will do our best to make sure all functions will return to campus on time but in case of traffic or inclement weather please send your students with a cell phone or your phone number so that we can contact you if we will be late.

Daily drop off and pick up location will be at Cougar Village 1 circle between Cougar Village 1 and Moody Dining Hall.

Residential Life

Dormitory Details: Residential Campers will be staying in Cougar Village 1.

Style of Dorms: University of Houston Debate Camp students will live in suites at Cougar Village 1. Each suite has two rooms that are connected by a shared bathroom. Each room will have two comfortable twin XL beds, dressers, desks, and chairs. There is a shared bathroom between the two rooms, as well as air conditioning. Refer to our University of Houston Facilities Brochure to learn more about the dorms.

Dorm Amenities: Cougar Village 1 dorm features a 24-hour operation desk and security, as well as a residential desk supervisor who is available to help with any needs or questions. Each room is shared by two people and contains a twin-size bed, desk, and dresser. Each floor has a kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, and microwave, as well as two large study lounges with dry-erase boards and community televisions, perfect for when students need a break from learning. The main floor lobby is where events and programs happen throughout the week and is also a great place for students to hang out with friends. Additionally, the dorm has a laundry room, where students can use the washer and dryer for free, and a computer lab for working on assignments.

Lunch for Commuters:

Please pack your child a lunch everyday if they are a commuter camper and did not purchase a lunch package. Commuter Campers will not be able to purchase daily lunch on campus. You will need to pack a lunch for your camper each day if you are a commuter camper and did not purchase the lunch package. We cannot add the lunch package to your registration at this time as meal counts for our camp have been submitted. As a reminder, we do run a NUT FREE camp. Any items containing nuts that our staff find will be confiscated and returned to parents at the end of each day.

Dining Details for Residential Students and commuters that chose lunch option: The Moody Dining Hall, located conveniently in Cougar Village 1, offers a buffet-style all-you-can-eat dining experience. The 33,000-square-foot dining hall is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by professional chefs and experienced cooks who prepare the food right before the students' eyes. The dining hall is also certified as a Level 1 Green Restaurant® by the Green Restaurant Association, ensuring a healthy and sustainable dining experience for all students.

Last Day of Camp for ALL CAMPERS

Thursday, June 20, 2024 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.)

Demonstration Debates: Students will perform demonstrate debates for their parents and family at the Student Union Building, 4455 University Drive, Houston TX. We ask that parents arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. Capitol Debate Staff will escort parents to the demonstration debates. This is a great chance for parents to see their students debate against their peers for the first time. The debates will take place from about 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Award ceremony: At 11:00 a.m. we will complete our Demonstration Debates and escort parents and students from the demonstration debates to our awards ceremony in the Student Union building. Parents will have the opportunity to watch their students walk across the stage and receive their Certificate of Completion as well as watch a farewell video with snapshots of students throughout the camp.

Checkout:­ After we wrap up our awards ceremony at 12:00 p.m. we will dismiss our commuter students and escort our residential Parents & Students to Cougar village 1 dorm rooms where they can pack up and head home.
