Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year to you and your families. I do hope you were able to enjoy the Christmas break together and were able to enjoy the celebrations with your families, helping you recharge for the new year.
The children have certainly came back, from the 2 week break, in a positive and cooperative manner and have settled quickly into their school routines. For many of our learners this is significant challenge and they have coped well, with high levels of attendance, which bodes well for the new term. The staff have certainly come back feeling energised and ready for the rigours of the spring term.
Those pupils that have been in School have been very supportive and worked cooperatively with staff to return to our school procedures and lesson activities. Thank you to all parents for having your child ready for School each day and for reinforcing our expectations and standards, which certainly helps us to support each child in School. I am confident that with your ongoing support that we can continue to put SJV on the map as one of the very best SEND schools in the north west. Thank you for your ongoing support.
This week my assemblies have been focused on the importance of the Epiphany Feast day, which falls on January 6th. The children have been given an understanding of the importance of the visit of the three Wise Men in celebrating the birth of Jesus and why in many cultures the Epiphany is as important as Christmas day in Catholic homes. We have asked them to make new year resolutions on how, following the messages from the Epiphany story, we can all show God’s love with others we meet in school and at home. Resolutions to make us all better people.
We have immediately provided our pupils this week with some amazing enrichment opportunities. Class 12 and Class 13 have visited the Banksy exhibition at the Lowry Centre and were enthralled by the range of his street artwork and its underlying meanings . A great visit to support their literacy and photography work in school. Additionally, Class 8 and Class 2 have yesterday attended a brilliant performance of Julia Donaldson’s book ‘Room on the Broom’. Both classes thoroughly enjoyed the experience, again at the Lowry Theatre in Salford. Other classes have got back into their weekly visits at Cronkshaw Farm, CAFT and to other offsite activities, which complement well the formal lessons they have in school. We are continuing to plan for other activities for your children and will be sending home some information over the next few weeks about the planned Key Stage residential experiences which are due to take place in March.
If you have any queries or concerns please contact the Admin team, who will direct you to the right person, who will be able to return your call.
Very best wishes for the weekend.

Class 4 had a lovely time at Cronkshaw Farm this week, we helped to feed and groom the goats and got to meet the chickens and explore their coupe. The children were engaged and enthusiastic to learn all about life on a goat farm. Tommy the cat, got lots of cuddles and Class 4 are really looking forward to going back to help out next week.
Our Catholic School
Happy New Year! Its 2023 and I’m so glad to be back at SJV for the start of a new year filled with fresh opportunities. Enjoy every day of the New Year and seek blessings from God. My wish for you all is that God lives in your heart always. I know for lots of people New Year means a fresh start or giving something up or wanting to improve something, but I think it's a good idea to start counting our blessings and what we have to be thankful for.
We are focussing on God’s message and this quote from Pope Francis:
‘Christ comes among us at Christmas: it is the perfect time for a personal encounter with the Lord. With Christ our life becomes full - everything makes sense.’
How well do we live out the expectations and standards that Jesus expects of us? Perhaps a new year is an opportunity to walk more fully in His footsteps!
Also, to look forward to Lent as it’s less than 8 weeks away!
Our Chaplaincy team met to lead the school in learning about the feast of the Epiphany and looked at developing the Chaplaincy Team Prayer. To start looking at what we are doing for Lent in terms of our spirituality, our kind acts, CAFOD and national campaigns like ‘Si- LENT'. It’s always a busy time for us at SJV. :-)
In RE this week we have of course been looking at the Epiphany and the importance of the Three Wise Men and the meaning behind the gifts.
We are looking forward to 2023 in SJV and all the wonderful achievements that our students will achieve this year as we continue to grow and develop together.
