Piedmont Bulls Tournament Baseball Ages 8U-12U

About the Piedmont Bulls

The Piedmont Bulls Baseball Tournament program is an extended opportunity for selected Piedmont players, ages 8U-12U. The Piedmont Bulls compete against teams from nearby communities through its spring/summer/fall tournament program throughout tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The primary purpose that the Piedmont Bulls teams are formed is to play in the Delaware State and Mid-Atlantic Regionals tournaments that are affiliated with Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth. Almost every other league in Delaware selects their “State” teams in June. The Piedmont Bulls runs a hybrid baseball program. At age 9U, the Piedmont Bulls operates as a year-round baseball program. Although we do run as a year-round team, Coaches within our program are flexible and understanding as they know that our players are multi-sport athletes.

The Piedmont Bulls is not an independent travel team. Our affiliation with Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth affords Piedmont the opportunity to play in States, Regionals and, at age 12, Cooperstown.

8U Coaching/Player Selection Process

Coaches: In April, the league seek out any interested candidated by emailing an interest form for any coach or parent to complete. After the deadline, the tournament director will disucss with each parent that has expressed interest in managing the 8U Piedmont Bulls Tournament Team. A recommendation will be presented to the Piedmont Board of Directors for final approval.

Players: Ideally tryouts happen on two separate dates in late April or early May for all interested “of age”. No players at any age level are permitted to "play up."

Players that attend at least one of the two tryout dates are eligible to be selected for the 8U Piedmont Team.

Independent evaluators assess the players' baseball skillset. At the conclusion of the tryouts, the scores are tallied and ranked. The 12 most skilled 8U players will be selected to join the 8U Gold team as determined by a rubric, the input of independent evaluators, the tournament director and the manager.

9U-12U Player Selections

Dates for the 2023 State Teams are as follows:

9U: Summer of 2023

10U: Summer of 2023

11U: Summer of 2023

12U: Summer of 2023

Only those players that attend at least one of the two tryout dates are eligible to be selected for either the Green or Gold Piedmont Team.

The 11-12 most skilled players will be selected to join the Gold Team as determined by a rubric, the input of independent evaluators, the tournament director, and the manager.

The head coach of the Gold Team has the opportunity to then select the 11-12 players to complete the rosters that they choose.
