Ambitious and overcoming describes her style perfectly. With her songs often having a mellow and positive feel, she empowers her listeners to keep going no matter how hard life gets and have fun through love while doing so. The songs you can kick back and relax to after a long day or to keep you calm or maybe evening dancing during the tough times of life.
Montana DeVane often explores concepts of "the heart and soul" in her songs — the way a person feels, thinks, reasons, perceives, wills, and feels as relating to music making. Her influences span across various eras, resulting in a sound that can’t be be boxed to a certain genre - she just lets her music flow. " I love art in every form. I create art in every form. I will never be sorry for being me and creating what I want to create. I will NEVER be in someone else's box."
Current projects
Montana has been putting out mixtapes since 2013 and after a 3 year hiatus leading up to the release of her 2018 EP release, "Closure", she released her second EP, “Black Sunflower” in Oct of 2020. The EP showcases the artist's versatile, alto but impressionable vocals. From the love filled lyrics, to the catchy rhythm of the chorus, this love letter style project was a favorable and a great introduction to her new lane in her music career.
She takes influences from artists all across the spectrum. From Smokie Robinson, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder; to MC Lyte, Missy Elliot, Bob Marley and Burna Boy. Her music takes on an entire form of its own without genre boundaries. Often looking at life as moments we must cherish, Montana's music touches on controversial subjects whilst still crafting a chill to upbeat vibe every time.
These days she’s getting back in touch with her roots. Her latest single "Copy Cats" signifying the end of an era where she will stop trying to cater to what everyone wants to hear and instead create what she wants from a place of passion. She’s inspired by stories, sounds, and experiences in life, often touching on her struggles of growing up as a girl child in the country backwoods of North Carolina along with other issues such as overcoming depression. Montana DeVane is due to release another project in Spring of 2021; however, for now you can tune into her latest singles and videos available now on all DSP platforms.
