Sona

Sona is an online participant recruitment system. To log into Sona please follow this link:

Undergraduate students need to collect 60 Sona points during the first 2 years of study to be able to have access to an "unlimited" Sona account in their 3rd year of study to collect participants for their dissertation. If a student reaches their final year of study and they have less than 60 Sona points, they will receive a "limited" researcher account. A "limited" researcher account means that the student will only be allowed to award as many points as they have collected. Therefore, it will limit how many participants the student can recruit. If a student has a "limited" researcher account, and continues to collect Sona points in their 3rd year and reaches 60 Sona points. The student's account will then become unlimited.

Postgraduate students and staff do not need to collect 60 Sona points to have access to a researcher account.

Once you have submitted your researcher account request, it will be approved by your supervisor and the Sona team. You will then be granted a researcher account. You can then add your study to Sona. Once you have submitted your study information, it will be checked by your supervisor and the Sona team and then activated.

Things to remember before submitting your study:

  • 15 minutes = 1 Sona point.
  • Please submit the study information that has been approved by ethics. Further information regarding ethics can be found on Blackboard here:

Hardware, software and equipment

Hardware:

We can provide assistance with hardware for the lab computers. If you have a specific purchase request, or need help with fixing hardware in the lab, please get in contact. If you have a query about the computer or equipment in another bookable space, computer room or office, please contact the DT help desk.

Software:

We can provide assistance with software installation, programming and software upgrading on the lab computers and student laptops. If you are a member of staff and you are using your office computer, you will need to ask DT to update/ install any required software onto your desktop.

We can help with SPSS, R studio, MATLAB, Psychopy and various other software. If you require a custom built program to run your research experiments. Please complete a project request form.

Equipment:

Staff and students can borrow equipment from the technicians office for their research projects. The technicians have a range of equipment that can be loaned out for a specific amount of time. Please contact us if you have any specific equipment requests and we will do our best to assist you.

What other services do we provide?

Project requests:

We provide technical support to all psychology students and staff. This form is to request technician assistance on a project which exceeds the scope of a drop-in session, in other words something which requires more than an hour of technician time. For example; programming experiments, building custom equipment, requesting support for a new piece of software or requesting continued support throughout a dissertation/thesis project would all warrant a project request. If a project changes after it has been agreed, you will need to submit a new form for any additional workload.

Lab access requests:

This form is for requesting access to a specialised Psychology research lab within the Sarah Swift building. Only complete this form if you need specific research equipment that is available within the space. You must have had all relevant training.

If you are able to work in a non-specialist lab, the fourth-floor of Sarah Swift hosts 9 purpose-built research cubicles that are bookable by students without additional access permissions (SSB4207-4216).

If you need to book the testing cubicles for longer than 3 hours please submit this form.
