What Is Jesus Doing Now? Is there a reason for His delay in returning to Earth?

If God is love, why does he allow suffering?

“Where was God when this tragedy occurred?”, said the mother of a teenager who died in a car accident when he was hit by a drunken driver. In the same way we can ask the question, “Where was God when His Son was dying on the cross?”

These hard questions make us wonder if God really cares. He does and in His plan to save humanity, He crafted the way to reunite sinful humanity with a perfect God.

At His birth, He united families of heaven and earth. He brought divinity to earth so He could take humanity with Him when He returned to heaven.

1. What type of example did Jesus Christ leave during his life on earth? (John 15:10)

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and remain in his love.

2. If Jesus lived a perfect life, why did He have to die? (Romans 5:1, 10)

But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life.

3. Why does our faith in Jesus Christ continue after the cross? (1 Corinthians 15:12-14, 20-22)

If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith also is in vain.

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

4. What is Jesus doing now? (Hebrews 4:14-16)

Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold tightly to our confession. For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

5. For what kind of sin can we receive forgiveness? (1 John 1:9)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus Christ, in His double function of sacrifice and High Priest, intercedes in our behalf in the Celestial Sanctuary. Christ’s work as the High Priest is coming to an end. Are you ready to ask Him for forgiveness?
