Wow, what an amazing term we have had full of magical learning and Christmas festivities.
Literacy
A dragon was spotted on the school grounds so we were super brave and went out onto the playground looking for clues.
After exploring different literacy features including adjectives, adverbs and time openers we wrote a set of instructions explaining how to catch a mythical creature.
We enjoyed writing about dragons so much that we read Zog and watched the film before writing our very first ‘Who am I?’ poem based on one of the characters from Zog.
Finally, we read ‘Where the Wild Things are’ and wrote own own fantasy retell of the story, changing some key parts of the story.
Maths
We have looked at multiplication and division during this half term. We learnt how to draw arrays to show multiplications and we we proved how kind we are by sharing amounts into equal groups.
We have expanded our maths vocabulary this half term and we can now use directional and positional language to describe movements and locations.
History
Our topic this half term had a history focus. We were very excited to learn about medieval Castles. We discussed what castles were made of, what they looked like, where they were built and how they were attacked and defended. We learnt about people from medieval times and the jobs they did and compared them to jobs today. We showcased our learning of castles by making a time capsule filled with pictures from the past.
Science
We have explored the seasons this half term, focusing on Autumn and Winter. We have observed the types of weather associated with Autumn and Winter, discussed the changes that occur in nature during the two seasons and compared the amount of daylight we get. We learnt a song about the seasons and it is very catchy!
PE
We have enjoyed playing football this half term. We have improved our passing and receiving skills when kicking a ball.
RE
We have looked at lots of different religions this half term focusing on their special places. We even got chance to visit the church and meet Father Tim.
RSE & PHSE
We have explored how families can be different and the characteristics and impacts of positive friendships. We have talked about our feelings and stereotyping.
Spring 1
I am excited for our learning for the next half term. In PE we will be exploring movement through dance. In Re we will be learning about lots of different religions but looking at how faith can contribute to community cohesion. In RSE and PHSE we are looking at safety and people who keep us safe in the community. In Science we will be exploring different materials, looking at their properties. Our topic for the next half term is Design Technology and we will be focusing mainly on food technology but also looking at textiles and resistant materials. The topic will be linked to one of our school values, I wonder if you can guess which one it will be?
