Dear Parents/Guardians,
Enjoy the half term break!
Thank you for your continued support this half-term. The year seems to be racing ahead and when we return there are only seven weeks until the Summer Break. We look forward to welcoming pupils back on Monday 5th June.
Attendance
We are still working hard to improve our whole school attendance as much as possible. It is so important that children attend school everyday. In my experience, whilst children are occasionally nervous in the mornings, nearly all children love school, gaining a sense of achievement as they make progress in their learning. As we all know, the friendships that children form in school often last a lifetime and the social and emotional aspect of school life is just as important as the academic.
Our approach with attendance:
Our school target is for all pupils to have an attendance of 97% or above. Although illness does happen, wherever possible children should be in school if they are well enough to attend. Any non illness or medical absences will be unauthorised, other than in exceptional circumstances. Days missed quickly build up and have a real impact on learning. What absence means in real terms:
90% attendance = 1 day missed a fortnight = almost 4 weeks missed in a year
80% attendance = 1 day missed a week = almost 8 weeks missed in a year
Interesting (and shocking facts):
- A child with 90% attendance throughout their school life will have missed the equivalent of more than a year's worth of school lessons.
- Only 35% pupils who have less than 90% attendance achieve five or more good GCSEs, but 73% of pupils who have an attendance of 95% or more will achieve this.
Currrently, school attendance sits at 92.5%. Can we work together to push towards 94% by the end of the summer term?
Summer Performances
Pupils in years one-six are going to be working hard to run a summer production during our next half term. Years one and two will work together; years three and four will work together; and so will years five and six. All performances will take place outside (as long as it doesn't rain) after school on Wednesday 12th July. We know that the cost of living crisis has placed additional pressures on families and I am acutely aware that we routinely ask for money. Therefore, to make the performances as affordable as possible, we are going to sell tickets at £1.50. The ticket will give you access to all concerts. If you have a child in year two and year six and you purchase a tickets for £1.50, this will give you access to both of the plays.
