Out of the Nest Summer 2022: jackie vargas

LOCATION: Mainly Luxembourg, with trips to France, Belgium, and Germany

I went to Luxembourg because I have family that lives there. Because they don't live in America, I don't have the chance to see them as often as other people might, but this summer was the perfect opportunity to go. Obviously it seems like a very random spot, but it isn't as lonely as most people might think it is. I was excited to go to Luxembourg because I feel like it is a spot a lot of people hear about, but never travel to, so I was excited to explore the country and dive into the different culture they have there.

I also made stops in Paris, France, Dinant, Belgium, and Trier, Germany. Paris was a four hour drive but it was totally worth it -- seeing the eiffel tower, getting my portrait drawn, and just watching people exist in their own lives was all really enjoyable. Dinant and Trier were really convenient spots to visit because they were only about 40 minutes-1 hour away from where I was staying in Luxembourg. Trier is a cool little city with wonderful architecture and shops and Dinant is a small town with amazing views. We ended up going to Dinant because I searched up "the most beautiful towns in Belgium" on Google and it came up that it was only an hour away from us!

3 Highlights

  1. Seeing my cousins for the first time since before covid started
  2. Going to the Louvre in France and looking at all the art in the museum
  3. Going to the Dinant citadel

2 Things I Learned About Myself

  1. I like to get up early and get going
  2. I don't like sparkling water

I feel like the balance Lehigh Women's basketball has in the summer is perfect. We end school and get a few weeks off before coming back and training again until the end of June, and then we have all of July and most of August to pursue other ventures on our own time. I like knowing I've gotten in good work before going off and doing other things.
