Mae Canete | University of Central Oklahoma

The ITA Rookie of the Year honors a first-year student-athlete who made significant contributions to his/her team in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship and performance.

UCO's Mae Canete had a stellar first year competing for the Bronchos. Canete finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally in singles and No. 10 in doubles. Those rankings were enough to earn her ITA Singles & Doubles All-American honors. Canete's skill at No. 2 singles and doubles helped the Chos to the NCAA semifinals. Canete finished with an undefeated 22-0 record in singles and a 16-3 record in doubles.

A Note from UCO Women's Tennis Head Coach Jaron Maestas

Mae, you have accomplished something that not many have. As a true freshman you went 24-0 in singles at the top 2 positions. Your passion on the court is what makes it special. Your determination and perseverance don’t always show in a 19 year old player. But you have shown years of experience that are beyond your age. It’s a pleasure to have you apart of my team and I am looking forward to your future.
