“An Artist born in the rural American South. Indigenous Ancestry. A Creative. Improvisational Vocalist. Songwriter. Poet. Visual Artist. Melodious Griot.” A Folk Musician of the Expressive ARTs.

The Mahoganee Xperience is an immersive Coastal Southern gath·er·ing of Gullah Geechee Indigenous Ancestral Expressive Arts: Afro-futurism storytelling through soulful folk songs, photography, mixed media and poetry.

Mission/Vision: Making a huge impact on the world with Arts Integration to Educate, Entertain, Elevate, Enlighten and Explore the possibilities utilizing the power of our Creativity and Imagination to advance the Gullah Geechee Culture and Heritage illuminating as a Sound Healer of Social & Environmental Justice for our overall Health & Wellness, highlighting environmental responsibilities with land stewardship and caring for our waterways.

The Mahoganee Xperience yields the best of the Artistry of Mahoganee who is a Gullah/Geechee South Carolina lowcountry creative, renowned improvisational vocalist, recording artist, songwriter, poet, mixed-media visualist and music cultural preservationist who believes in arts advocacy through strategic partnerships. In her latest work she explores Afro-futurism with "time travel" and “portals”. Her work is heavily influenced by the quote "The South is a Portal" from the thesis of griot, time-traveler, historian, writer, and educator Sara Makeba Daise, and the new book "BlackWorld" by American sociologist, author, lecturer, and educator Dr. Bertice Berry.

“If Womanism had a soundtrack, then she would be a featured artist. Her musical stylings embody the spirit of this concept – vocals that are tender and yet powerful; a fiercely original artist with the ability to passionately interpret the greats from Nina to Natalie; a talented trustee of the art for past, present and future generations. Hearing her original live music will take you on a global journey through space and time, all the while keeping you intimately connected to your own understanding of the pure joy and pain that is music. Sensual, inspirational, memorable – Mahoganee.”

Also referred to as “Da Sea Island Songbird” her unique style of storytelling blends elements of Jazz, Funk, Blues, Hip-hop with African and Caribbean influence, touching on all elements of both contemporary and traditional American roots music, making her a quintessential modern FOLK singer. This music that ignites the senses and lyrics born out of her trans-Atlantic heritage that spark the soul is created by Mahoganee and her husband, music producer André Amigér and they call it Indigenous Soul Music.

With over 30 years of experience in her field and national credits to her name, Mahoganee’s artistic persona is constantly evolving. Her sultry and earthy vocals, commanding acapella stage presence, and a range spanning more than four octaves has earned her a loyal following by an ever-growing fan base and thus given the name “Sea Island Songbird”. She has performed before dignitaries and 21st century icons and for audiences of 20,000+ at festivals and other corporate, private, civic and community events – including Historical Penn Center's Heritage Festival, the Annual Black Family Reunion for the National Council of Negro Women in Washington, DC, and the Black Heritage Festival in Savannah, GA.

“Textures of a Southern Soul (a Gullah Geechee Soul)” Album Reviews

I used the song Reflekshuns from Mahoganëë’s Album Textures of a Southern Soul (A Gullah Geechee Soul) during the meditative invocation portion of the course I taught at the Graduate Theological Union last year. I will teach this course- Yoruba Spirituality as an Environmental Justice Paradigm - again. 🌿 Be blessed by the clarity of her voice. -Professor Ayana Grady-Hunt

Every time her voice comes over my speakers I am stunned at how beautiful it is. She feels every sentiment in her songs, which makes her voice very rich and powerful. Listening to Mahoganee is a blessing. -Elizabeth Pennewill

Day 2 at the Lincolnville Museum celebrating Juneteenth was an incredible experience. The Mahoganee Xperience introduces her audience to a new entertainment genre that is educational and inspiring. I enjoyed her creative genius. Art, artist insight, music, and storytelling all from one amazing entertainer, Mahoganee. -Eleanor B. Tremayne

An elixir for the spirit and inspiration for greater intentionality in our humanity. This is sound, music and affirmations for the soul. Deeply rooted majestic tunes, breathtaking voice and organic lyrics that speak to the soul and our hue-manity. A sound gem and soul infusion to export you to new portals of being. -Donellia Chives

Mahoganee's lyrics and music in The Textures of a Southern Soul effortlessly seamlessly blend to birth an epic musical production that speaks of the pain, joy, anger and love of, not only her experience as a southern daughter, but the experience of black women at large. This album is Nina Simone epic. -Susan Madison

I'm loving the vibe that the lyrics and music generate - lowcountry, southern, colorful, vibrant, strong, natural, genuine... You harness the scenes and provisions of culture, family, love and nature and express them in beautiful melodies. Thank you for this wonderful album! -K. Kinard

The Sea Island Songbird has given us a most beautiful thoughtful and soulful love letter. The messages conveyed in these lyrics - "Auntie Air says slow down and breathe"- engage us, want the best for us. I thought my favorite was 'Funky Organik Soul',...until I heard 'Snap' - "Once you say it out loud, its real" - now I'm in another world. This is one of those rare 'listen all the way through offerings' - a vibe for your Friday night or Sunday afternoon. Much gratitude to the Dynamic Duo for putting in the werk on this project. -Najmah Thomas

ARTIST EDUCATOR STATEMENT

“As a performing musician and recording artist for over 30 years it is my purpose to inspire, educate and uplift our youth through music. To teach young people the greater possibilities of who they can become when they embrace their natural gifts through empowering and educational mentorship via the arts. Being who you are comfortably in your skin gives others permission to do the same which in my opinion is a direct counteract to bullying. Arming students with the power to love themselves and understand that creativity is a great source of their power is a fundamental key in what I reflect to my students."
