This week has seen Key stage 1 complete some quizzes and the children from KS2 School Council visit St Peters for an Eco Day. We have also seen the start of the transformation of the corridors in the main entrance and some further developments to the climbing wall and boat outside. It has been a real week of seeing changes and we are looking forward to sharing them all with you as we continue into the Summer Term.
School life
This week Miss Rose’s class were hunting for microhabitats and discovering what creatures live in each microhabitat. The children found woodlice, spiders, worms and even a centipede! We then sketched the different microhabitats and insects we found in our books. We had a lovely time exploring the pond and outdoor areas in school and finished off by creating our own class microhabitat!
This week Reception have been recreating the farm we visited and drawing simple maps. We have also been talking about the difference between wild animals and farm animals and the children have been writing about different animals. The children have been painting and drawing their favourite animals as well as using paints and pastels to create flowers. We have been developing our team building and communication skills by taking part in a Commando Joe mission. We have been halving numbers in maths and investigating odd and even numbers.
School council went to St Peter's with Miss Bell to see if we could do something around building back up a school eco club and the importance of looking after our environment
We are excited to share how we are coming along with transforming the entrance to school, linking it further with the school community, where we are and our values to Nurture, Grow, Succeed and to RESPECT.

Open Afternoon
Thursday 26th May we are opening our doors again for you to come and join in with your child's learning and discuss their learning with them. We look forward to welcoming you from 1:15pm and we will hear from the school council at the end of the day in the hall.
We will also share with Parents and Carers at the end of the day, the PSHE curriculum with RSE, that will be covered in the remainder of Summer term.
Queen's Jubilee
Queen's Jubilee celebrations on Friday 10th June.
We will be having a picnic lunch for those on school dinners on that day, so that we can make the most of the afternoon's celebrations. There will be a ParentMail being sent shortly so that we know numbers.
Parents can bring a picnic, play (see the amazing OPAL play in action) and celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.
The afternoon will start at 1pm
Year 6 Residential
As the residential gets closer, we would like to share updates, kit lists etc.
We will be holding a meeting in school on Tuesday 24th May at 5:30pm in the school hall.

We're also looking to develop a Maker Space room in school to expand out computing curriculum and ensure children leave Galley Hill with a computer literacy enabling to be ready for the next stage of their education and ready for the workplace of the future.
This equipment will form part of the offer to expand the opportunities for children to explore and be creative with coding. You can also support our campaign for that here: https://www.letslocalise.co.uk/pap-campaign-details?pledgeCampaignId=11080
Finally, we have a little online raffle to help raise funds to continue to develop our school grounds and brighten it up in time for the jubilee celebrations. Prizes are chocolates with 3 winners. You can support and buy your tickets here:https://www.letslocalise.co.uk/entertainment-details-view?eventId=12615
