Men's and Women's Crew Battled in the NESCAC Regional Races, Women Advance to NESCAC Championship

Facing off against nationally ranked Tufts University (#4) in the first round of the NESCAC Regional Championship, the women's team topped the Jumbos by two seconds to advance to the finals and earn a spot at next weekend's NESCAC Championship. The Mules lost the finals heat to #1 Bates College but will see the Bobcats again in the conference championship.
The men's team dropped its first round head to head matchup with Bates by only seven seconds, and took out its second-round opponent (Conn. College) by almost one minute.

Men's and Women's Track & Field Compete with Bates and Bowdoin, Generate Seven Event Winners

Tyler Morris '23 won the 5000 meter run and left a trio of Mules to place in the top-4 of the event.
Nick Carpenter '22 cleared 3.05m in the Pole Vault, good for a silver medal.
Julia Hopley '23 claimed the bronze medal in the 3000 meter Steeplechase.

Baseball Plates 21 Runs in a 2-game Sweep of Bates

The Mules started the weekend off strong with a 9-2 victory in Lewiston.

In Sunday's 12-4 victory on Mayflower Hill, Nick Thompson '24 went 4.1 innings for the second consecutive weekend, earning his second collegiate victory.
First year Marcus Forrester made sure nothing hit the ground in the carpet in the outfield. Forrester got it done at the plate too. On the weekend, he went 4-8, scoring five runs and adding two RBI and two stolen bases.
Senior Andrew Russell wasn't shy around the plate, scoring a contested run in the 4th inning to put Colby ahead 7-1.

Men's and Women's Tennis Top Bates, Both Move to 4-1 on the Year

Carly Levitz '22 moved to 3-1 in NESCAC play from the #1 singles position, and currently ranks #12 in the Northeast Region in singles.

The women's team made quick work of Bates at home on Saturday, finishing the day with a perfect 9-0 mark. They are currently ranked #12 in the Northeast Region.

The men's team traveled to Lewiston Sunday and came away with a 6-3 victory over the Bobcats. The Mules were ranked #8 in the Northeast Region heading into the matchup with #11 Bates.

Women's Lacrosse Jumps up Early, Holds on to Take Final Game Against Bates

Ranked as high at #7 nationally by the IWLCA, the Mules played inspired ball against a Bates unit that looked to avenge a one-sided Colby victory only weeks before. The Mules held a 11-2 advantage at the half and warded off a stiff second half Bobcat attack on senior day in Lewiston.

Sophomore Gianna Bruno tallied seven points on three goals and four assists in a 14-10 win over Bates. She scored two unassisted goals and handed out three assists in the first half as Colby built its early lead, and added a goal and an assist in the second half to keep the Mules in front. 

Men's Soccer Hosts the Bobcats, Comes Away Victorious 2-1

In their first game in over 18 months, first year Max Farner scored his first goal as a Mule to put Colby ahead 1-0 at the break. Bates was able to tie the match halfway through the second half, only to have another first year, Ethan Franco, put the Mules ahead for good, knocking in a rebound at close range.

Over the past twenty years, data analytics has become increasingly prevalent in the world of sports. Oftentimes when discussing sports analytics, the popular baseball film "Moneyball" comes to mind, a story of how General Manager Billy Beane took the Oakland Athletics to the playoffs in four straight seasons (2000-2003) with one of MLB's lowest payrolls by focusing on metrics like on-base percentage over batting average or home runs. Once word got out, data analytics took professional sports by storm, and trickled down to NCAA Division I institutions. Rarely does one see it at the Division III level… until Colby Athletics unveiled its Peak Performance program.
