Romi Carrell Wittman 2023 Adobe Digital Learning Institute

DAY 1: EXPRESS

My Bio

REFLECTION

Adobe Express is an amazing tool for creating social media posts as well as great graphics for proposals, presentations, etc. I love working in Adobe Express. I learned a lot about how to use Express to foster creativity and critical thinking in my course assignments. I believe allowing students to use their creativity will increase their engagement in -- and enjoyment of -- my course.

DAY 2: PHOTOSHOP

Blue Cotton Candy Flamingos + Electric Fish

REFLECTION

Photoshop is such a powerful tool, but it's daunting for students. I will help my students learn the basics of photoshop so they can use their own original photo illustrations in the written papers and presentations they submit to class. My goal is to demonstrate to students how visuals can improve reading retention and audience engagement. From there, they will be empowered to add that engagement to their own materials, both in class and in the professional world.

DAY 3: ILLUSTRATOR

I made this!

REFLECTION

lllustrator has long vexed me. I tried to teach myself with little progress. Now I feel confident enough to manipulate illustrations, meaning I will be able to create great visuals for my online classroom. I love presenting information graphically as opposed to tons of text. This will help me do just that.

LESSON PLAN 1

Introduce Yourself to the Class

Use Adobe Express to create a social media post that includes photography, icons and other elements to introduce yourself and tell your stories.

Expected Learning Outcomes: After completing this assignment, students will be able to: (1) Narrate a story or experience in a digital format for an audience of their peers. (2) Develop digital literacy and proficiency with commonly used web-based digital tools, (3) Curate and organize content effectively, (4) Use creativity to express themselves, solve a problem, or generate a new idea. (5) Use the design process to generate useful or imaginative solutions for problems.

Assignment Instructions

  1. Go to https://sites.google.com/email.arizona.edu/ldrv-498-org-leadership-capsto/adobe-creative-cloud to see the lesson instructions, including the process to register with Creative Cloud.
  2. Assignment Prompt: This is a new year and a great time to let people know who you are and what matters to you! Use and Adobe Express social media template to introduce yourself and to tell us what makes you unique. Include info on each of the following: Your name, a photo, the degree you're pursuing, your current job (no need to include employer if you don't want to), your 5-year professional goal, where you're located (i.e., city), hobbies, favorite foods, favorite TV show or any other fun facts you wish to share.
  3. Your post must include each of the following: Your name, a photo, the degree you're pursuing, your current job (no need to include employer if you don't want to), your 5-year professional goal, where you're located (i.e., city), hobbies, favorite foods, favorite TV show or any other fun facts you wish to share. Your grade on this assignment will based on your use a creative layout, icons to represent the themes and topics of your post, text describing the elements used. Feel free to include additional information you feel comfortable sharing. See the example below of my own Introduce Yourself Post.
  4. Save your work and download it as a .PNG file, then post the PNG file to the Discussion Board / Post in IVO: Introduce Yourself Digitally. (Visit the LDRV 498 course resources Adobe Express page for instructions on how to download your file as a .PNG.)

ASSIGNMENT EXAMPLE

GRADING RUBRIC

0 to 5 point performance appraisal scale. This assignment is worth 5 points towards your final grade in this class. (100 points to be earned throughout the course.)

  • 0 = Did not complete, is plagiarized, is off topic/gibberish, or is late.
  • 1 = Incomplete: doesn't include all assignment prompts.
  • 2 = Approaches requirements: Includes some of the assignment prompts.
  • 3 = Meets requirements: Includes all assignment prompts and original graphics.
  • 4 = Exceed requirements: Includes all assignments prompts and original, fully customized graphics.
  • 5 = Exceptional work that exceeds basic requirements: Includes all assignment prompts and original, fully customized graphics with creative flair. It's apparent the student took time to develop a creative graphic that introduces themself to the class.

DAY 4: PREMIERE RUSH

Welcome Video For Students

REFLECTION

I loved learning about Rush, but working in video is not easy! I have so much to learn. Rush doesn't feel intuitive to me, but I'm learning! I love the ability to use Adobe Stock for photos, illustrations, video clips and music beds. That makes 'homemade' videos like mine so much more professional. While I don't think a career in video editing is in my future, I feel I can make quality instructional videos for my classes.

DAY 5: AUDITION

PODCAST: CAFFEINE & A PRAYER - a podcast of women (and others) Talking About Things (TM).

REFLECTION

The assignment did not come naturally to me. I'm a writer and graphic designer so not putting things into words and just talking about is hard! Despite that, I can see the wonderful educational opportunities in podcasts. I have some ideas as to how I can deploy this in my classroom!

DAY 6: XD

Click on the button above at the top of this section OR scan this QR code to view my XD portfolio.
Image showing links between items on home screen and sub-screens.

REFLECTION

I knew nothing about XD when I started this class. I thought it might be related to InDesign in some fashion...now I know better! I learned how to prototype mobile and web app layouts for maximum user experience engagement. While I don't anticipate using this in my classes or in my personal life at this point, having this understanding has broadened my knowledge of digital design practices.

Lesson Plan 2
