Literacy
During Literacy this half term we have focused on telling a story from another culture and diary writing.
We used skills such as powerful adjectives, conjunctions, adverbials, suffixes, verbs and contractions to make our writing more interesting and lively.
We have worked really hard on our presentation this term and our teachers have noticed how hard we have worked when we have published some of our final pieces.
Maths
In maths this half term we have revisited measurement including time, length, capacity and money.
We learnt how to tell the time. We are understand where the minute and hour hand go for quarter to and quarter to times and have started to look at times to the nearest 5 minutes.
We have looked closely at scales to measure to in cm and in ml, and we identified coins and used them to add up different amounts.
We also identified 2D and 3D shapes and used the correct vocabulary to describe them.
Lira
In Lira we delved deeper into Lira and the Secret of the Rain. We unpicked key vocabulary and made inferences about how Lila was feeling. To enhance our learning we also looked at the non-fiction book Africa Amazing Africa to find out more about the continent where Lila lived.
We finished the half term by looking at the book Rabbit and Bear. The children thoroughly enjoyed this book and were able to articulate how Rabbit's behavior had changed and give reasons why.
Topic
This half term our focus area was Art, in particular painting. We started the half term by learning about the artist Picasso and Hockney and discussed the similarities and differences between their work,
We investigated what happened when we added black or white to our colours. We then used what we had learnt to create different shades.
We then looked at how to use correctly when applying paint.
We finally looked at different types of brushes and why they would be used.
It was then onto planning out masterpieces thinking carefully about their colour choices and the brushes they would use to add emphasis and detail.
We hope you all can come along to our Art Gallery to see our final pieces. You are going to be blown away with what they have created!
Science
In science this term we have explored animals and their habitats.
We started off by looking at the 7 life processes of living things. We remembered this by using MRS GREN - movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.
We then identified different habitats and explored micro habitats in our school grounds.
To finish our unit of work we worked scientifically to find find out which habitat a woodlice would prefer by creating a choice chamber.
Celebrations
During this half we have had lots of children show the school values and were awarded certificate!
Lots of other celebrations too.
These children raised money for our special sports visitor, Sean Gaffney.
We also celebrated world book day together!
Make sure you continue to share your celebrations from home with us by either bringing things into school, on Twitter or on Seesaw - we love to see them!
