Johnston Community School Friday 14th January

School Uniform

We have an expectation that pupils wear uniform in order to:

  • create a shared sense of identity and community;
  • help reduce triggers for bullying;
  • support pupils to approach school with a positive attitude ready for learning;
  • create a sense of pride in our community;
  • remove peer pressure to follow fashions and trends.

A few weeks ago, we asked for donations for our school uniform recycling shop. We have received a large number of donations and we are very grateful to all of the families who have dropped off old uniform. All items have been washed and on Thursday, 20th, we will begin selling items. Items will be sold in the classroom to the left of LRC 1 (Mrs. Greenish will be standing at the door) at 14:45-15:30 and we ask for a 50p donation for each item. Why not grab yourself a bargain?

Springboard Opportunities this Half Term

Pedagogy School Project

Before Christmas we applied to a local authority scheme to allow us to become a lead school for teaching and learning. We were selected for this project because of the high standards which pupils achieve and the work which we have already begun to develop our curriculum. During the next two terms, we are going to be holding various open days to share our approaches to the teaching of reading, maths and much more. The whole community should be proud of the achievement.

Inset Day Reminder

Reminder - School is closed for all classes apart from LRC 1, 2 and 3 on Monday, 31st January.

Fruit Shop is back!

We are going to begin selling fruit again on Monday, 17th January. All items will be for sale for 30p and pupils will receive a full portion of fruit. Apples, bananas, raisons and much will be sold! Pupils will be able to purchase fruit on their way to class between 8:40 and 9:00. To ensure that the shop if Covid safe, an adult will see the fruit for the foreseeable future.

Welsh Government Survey

The Welsh Government is exploring options around the structure of the school day and the school year.

Parentkind and the Child Poverty Action Group have worked together to create a short survey for parents to give them the chance to share their views on reforming the school day and school year in Wales.

We would appreciate if you could share the link to the survey to encourage parents to take part. The closing date is January 23rd.

Get Well Soon Mrs. Lane!

Mrs. Lane was unable to return to school after the Christmas holiday as she required emergency surgery. We are pleased to hear that Mrs. Lane is home and recovering well and we can't wait to see her back in school.

In the interim period, Mrs. Hackett has been teaching Class Three. Mrs. Hackett has been working at Johnston C.P. School since September 2021 and she is supported by the rest of the Johnston team. Please, don't hesitate to ask Mrs. Hackett a question should you have any concerns or worries.

LRC 2 & 3 - Welcome Mr. V.

For the next few weeks, Mr. V. is going to be teaching LRC2 and 3. Mr. V. has extensive teaching experience and he is looking forward to making a positive impact at Johnston C.P. School.
