Feed My Starving Children
Several South Forks Lions participated in this years Feed Our Starving Children food packing event on Saturday, March 26. Thousands of meals were packaged and will soon be on their way to starving children worldwide. The meals packaged will arrive at their location in 3 weeks from the packaging date, a miracle in and of itself. This tremendous event is spearheaded by Jodie Storhaug and her husband, Lion Bruce.

Grand Forks Herald Publisher Addresses South Forks Lions
Mr. Wensel became publisher of Herald in 2014. He came from a small South Dakota newspaper from a family of newspaper people. He discussed the challenge of operating a newspaper in todays environment. Physical paper subscribers are way down, at one point losing 1000 subscribers a year. He also discussed the competition, the internet and Amazon. The internet has greatly reduced classified ads for example. Amazon has replaced local advertising, for example businesses like K-Mart and Macy’s used to purchase a significant amount of advertising. Many areas have major stores closing which reduces the need for advertising. Mr. Wensel discussed what the paper does now, provide content, and content costs money. Actual reporters creating content that is then used in the paper, online and in stories on Google etc. He said the newsroom now operates with 13 people. Two years ago there were 0 digital subscribers, now 7,000. 8500 subscribers have both digital and print subscriptions. Mr. Wensel said that things have been changing very quickly and the Herald has had to take actions to stay viable. The South Forks Lions wish to thank Mr. Wensel for his time and informative presentation.
All Lions are asked to give serious consideration to becoming an officer or board member. With elections nearing please give a positive response to the election committee member should they contact you. Your help is needed. "We Serve."
